I have a 3month old beagle and I go away some weekends to the beach (2 hour drive). She loves it once we get there but along the way she throws up (she never throws up otherwise) unless you hold her and even if you hold her she salivates heavily.

Is there anything I can do to help her with this or is it just a matter of her getting used to riding in cars?

Any/all advice i s appreciated.

Thanks

She'll love it. She's pretty young. Start small with short trips. No food before you go. Having someone hold her and reassure her. Use a towel. I'd say forgo the drugs if you can. Soon she'll practically knock you down if you jingle the keys.

You need to get you dog use to riding in the car by gradually incresing the length of time in the car.
It will be best of the dog is located so that it can not see sout of a side window, that it hasn't had food for a couple of hours before a trip.
You may also want to reseach the use of Back FLower Reme dies or talk with your Vet about a seditive.

I have read that if you put multiple layers of newspaper on the car seats and floor of your car it may fix the problem or at least hopefully reduce it (the newspaper acts as an electrical earth which cuts down the static electricity in the car). I'm not sure if it works, but it can't hurt to try! Good luck!

Withhold any food and water 2 hours prior to the trip, and make sure she gets fresh air in the car. If she hangs out a window too much, get her a seatbelt and keep her window down.

Dramamine may keep it from getting sick, but then it won't enjoy the beach as much, drowsy.

awww, my foxhound used to do that too. He got over it by the time he was a year old. He loves car rides now.

Call your vet and ask for a proper dosage of Dramamine for your pup.
