We called the vet and they said to feed her rice/chicken for a couple of days. It didn't stop so the 3rd day we took a stool sample but no parasite. She was weak but she still ate a little food & water.

Was she vaccinated against parvo? Was she too young when she got her first parvo vaccine to develop immunity?

Could she have eaten the contaminated dog food before the recall? I'm so sorry you lost your dog.

Do you mean the dog is dead, or that you're worried about her dying? If you still have the dog it goes without saying she should be at a vet's right now.

If a dog dies after 3 days of diarrhoea, it means the diarrhoea was a symptom of something very serious - possibly parvo (any blood in the poo?) or any other serious gut infection. Could also be a blockage caused by something she swallowed.

What was the diarrhoea like? Very watery? What colour? Any blood? All these questions need to be answered before a guess at what was wrong can be made - and it could only be a guess.

Vets will often suggest the bland food approach first, if it is old mild diarrhoea with no other symptoms, and especially if the dog is vaccinated. They would usually request you bring the dog in if the symptoms worsen, or if any others develop.

My dog recently died after being sick for a short time just like you described. It is a mystery to me. the vet did not find anything unusual like parvo or anything like that and he did prescribe some antibiotics. my dog was old, about 9 years but that is not really too old as some dogs live to the teens. my dog could not hold any food nor water when she got seriously ill. She threw everything up. I also noticed that her belly seemed to be firm but without eating much what could be in there? someone suggested that the dog probably bled internally and that is why the stomach felt very firm. Perhaps the dog had cancer and at her age already lack the energy to fight it off. Towards her last few hours her breath smelled differently. It was strange.

It could have been any number of things. If you ever question your health of your dog you should always take it immediately to a vet. It sounds like it could have been Provo but that isn't the only thing it could have been. you may want to have her food checked by the vet to make sure that it wasn't part of the recall. You can always have an autopsy done on the dog to find out for sure what it might have been. In any case I'm very sorry for your loss and I hope that you find answers that you need. My prayers are with you and your dog.

I'm sorry about your dog.

There are too many things to list that could have caused it. About the only way to know for sure once the dog has died is a necropsy performed by your vet.

Possibly kidney failure. You should have just taken her to the vet as soon as symptoms started or got a second opinion. I'm very sorry for the loss of your dog.

It could have been some kind of food poisoning. Im very sorry to hear that your dog passed away.

Kidney issues (were her eyes yellow where they used to be white?) or simply dehydration. An IV would have replaced the fluids.

Sorry for your loss =(

I'm so sorry.

Dehydration would do it. But I don't know what might have caused the diarrhea to begin with.
