I've been researching a lot about dog food since i got my puppy. it is unbelieveable the difference in quality between brands. and those brands like prescription diet and pedigree that seem so great actually have such bad quality ingredients... who knew! what do you think of dog food? do you feed your dog holistic food or specially prepared meals? has anyone noticed any great improvements in their pets from switching to a holistic food? for all those who never gave their dog food a second thought, you should! and check out this great site that offers ratings on pratically every dog food on the market!

http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/index.php

p.s and for all those who think healthier food is more expensive, it really isn't! i just bought a 4lb bag of wellness for just under $20 and that will last my pup a good 2 months! definately worth it :)

2 pitbulls attacked three little dogs being walked by their owners, killing one of them and injuring another. The third dog ran away. When are the ignorant white trash and thugs(I bet not too many doctors, lawyers, or teachers own a pitbull) going to realize their dogs kill? If your pitbull hasn't killed yet, just give it time.
Now I'm sure people are going to say there is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners. Who are you trying to fool with that argument?
And I'm sure someone is going to say how Labs or poodles or some other dog bite way more than pitbulls. This is crap, and I'd like to see the proof. But if i'm wrong(which I doubt) that's still not really the issue. Other dogs may bite but when they do, its over. When pitbulls bite, they don't stop until a child or other dog is killed or seriously injured.
Pitbulls are horrible breeds and putting a ban on them like the experts in Ontario did is the only way to stop or at least minimize these pointless attacks.

....at 6mos old, and how big is he/she now? If you could mention the breed and their current age that would be helpful.

Thanks!

I recently decided to take my 4month old golden on his first walk, only to find out that the leash around his neck is not comfortable. He immediately yelps and drops to the ground. How do I remove this obstacle. His 1 year sister does NOT do this......she too is a golden.

Our poor old dog is presently at the vet's-will be for a while--vet thinks she was bitten by a snake, and a big one at that. Have any of you experience w/this???

I'm worried about our old dog--vet said there was a large amount of necrosis--. The dog is about 10 and had heart worm (treatment-grueling) when we adopted her at appr. age 3.)

TIA

I just purchased a Rottweiler puppy on 04 may 2007, well he was fine until yesterday. He started to vomit, so I took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with parvo. Well the breeder gives you a 3 business day health guarantee. She refuses to abide by it saying I waited too long. i feel like I did not because sat and sunday are not business days so I caught it on the 3rd day. Now she refuses my emails and phone calls, she said she has no more puppies to replace him with and she does not do refunds. So what do you think I should do?

I lost my 11 month old Lily yesterday. She was hit by a truck while I was at school. I miss her and the pain is unbearable. I want the companionship of a new dog, but my parents aren't ready and don't think they ever will be. How long should I wait before I get a new dog? I want to pay my respects to Lily. And how do I convince my parents?

The preveice owners of my dog had him castrated which is a shame as he is one of the best looking dogs around .breeders have stopped me in the street and ask if i would breed him and they all say its a shame his old owners done this to him as hes one of a kind .
so really i would like to find out if theres any chance of him ever having pups ,or anything i could try and do .

So, my bf and I will be dog sitting an "intact" husky for a week. It'll be fun for our dog to have the company, but I'm worried that he may start to mark his territory in the house. Should I be concerned? And btw, we just bought the house this month and I don't really want dog wiz in it.

Have a 9 yo Shepherd x Malamute and have just bought an 8wk old pup, same cross, both are F. After having both dogs for just over a week, they are just starting to play together (both on leads so we can control them). The 9yo is getting more interested in playing however have noticed that she in becoming rougher in play and tries to lay on top of the pup. She has also started to try to bite or pick up the pup by the scruff of the neck. We are guessing that laying on the pup is to try to stop the pup from attacking/biting her however we have no idea about the scruff biting.

9 yo was desexed about 6 mths ago due to medical reasons and she has only socialised with 2 other dogs since we got her at about 9 mths old, both other dogs M. One dog was a cross (around medium poodle size) who we visited regularly, the other was a blue heeler who she lived with for about 4 yrs.

Is the scruff biting some sort of mother instinct, a controlling reaction or is she asserting her dominance?

I have 3 small dogs, one Maltese and one Shih-tzu mix, and a mutty mutt who has very little fur and almost never gets ticks. The 2 long haired dogs are getting them right an left.
This is the second summer that I have been battling the tick issue. My back yard was a mess but alot af the weeds/ over growth of vegetation has been removed. Ideas? I have read DE is good. Anything else?

My husband has been deployed since the beginning of January. He has a wonderful relationship with both of our dogs ( a 1 year old Cairn terrier and an 11month old lab/shepard) We don't have children, so these pups really are our kids, and we treat them as such. As soon as he left (that night) my Cairn, who isthe smaller of two, but the more dominate, got extremely possessive of my husbands pillow. I have managed to break him of that to the point that he'll let me near the pillow, but still not our other dog. I've done experiments, putting a pillow that looks the same in place of the one that Maximus has 'claimed' and even hid his daddy's pillow. he knew as soon as he smelled it, and even went to the closet door (the real pillow was inside) and scratched and whined until i gave it to him. Could he have recognized the fact, even that soon after he left, that 'daddy' wouldnt be back for a while? Is it because the pillow smells like my husband?

so my dog always eats dog food. i never let him eat human food if he refuses to eat dog food just because i feel sorry for him. however, when he does something ultra good such as listening to all my commands and stopping somewhere before i get there, i give him any food i'm eating as a treat. i know which foods and good and bad for him but is it okay to give it toh ima s an extra special treat? he knows he doesnt get my food a lot so if i do, he knows he's done something good. is it ok to do this or should i treat him with kibble? when, i take him outside to train him and he does something i want, i offer him kibble but he doesnt want it. however, when i offer him chicken or something, he loves it and does it again. is this ok?

I have a 1 year old Cairn terrier. At night, everynight, when its time to go to bed his breathing gets weird. He pants, and breathes very quickly. I've started keeping a water dish in the bedroom, but he rarely ever drinks from it, so it isnt because of thirst. He also licks. and licks and licks and licks. He'll lick me, the blankets, my pillow, whatever his little tongue can reach from where he's laying. I have even had to get up in the middle of the night to change my pillowcases because he has soaked it. Are these things normal? The breathing I know there isnt anything that I can do about it, its just a little weird. The licking i'd like to stop, but i dont know how (i dont want to use 'Bitter Apple' or anything like that on my bed)
Any suggestions would be helpful (and by suggestions, i mean something that has more to it than "if you dont like it then dont let him sleep in the bed" because that is not helpful in the least)

Why do people have pets?
Cannot they get dates,
or are they too ugly or bored?
Why do some people get
pets if they cannot take care of them?
