The Pitbull is a Banned Breed in this Country and therefore any you do see are not likely to have been bred by a responsible breeder! They are the product of back yard breeding and the breeders are doing it just to make money! A great deal as Illegal dogs are sold on the Black Market! Most of the dogs would be from dogs bred to fight and whether you like it or not aggression is passed down to pups! Health of the breeding pair is also not an issue for those that breed them and to compare these dogs with a Well bred American dog is obviously not fair. Neither is it fair to say we are all too quick to judge the Pitbull, it's the type of owner we judge. They are criminals after all. There are other similar breeds they could keep but they don't want them, they want an illegal fighting dog and they train them to be aggressive. Normally a dog of the breed wouldn't be aggressive to people but these dogs aren't socialised as pups. Too much risk of someone reporting them I suppose! Anyone who knows anything about dogs knows that what a dog is bred for and how it is raised from a puppy and the training it receives makes the difference and that there is no 'bad' breed just 'bad' owners! Sorry but the majority of Pit owners in the UK are the very people who shouldn't even have a stuffed toy dog in my opinion! Why not ask them why they don't care that it is the poor dog that takes the blame? As the owner of a breed that is also given a 'bad' reputation I know how angry it can make someone! However as a responsible dog owner I know that what you say is rubbish! It shows you have little knowledge of a dog's natural behaviour too. No dog is ever 100% safe being left with a child or even a strange adult! You cannot guarantee that the human won't make a mistake and do something the dog would misinterpret as a threat, or even accidently hurt your dog. I'm certain too that if I as a total stranger 'invaded' your dog's territory without invite your dog would not be wanting to lick me and have a cuddle. That would be totally against the instinct of any dog! If I was lucky it being a Pit bull it would bark like crazy to warn me to stay away and to alert it's fellow pack members that there was someone there! If I was unlucky or pushed it too far, it would be brave enough to attack! It would not be the dog at fault though! It would still be me as the human! When-ever a dog bites it's usually Human Ignorance.

Well, your entire "question" is just completely full of ignorance.
I am not a thug or white trash and I own several APBTs. My mother is a high school algebra teacher and my father is an I&C supervisor at a power plant... they have one of my dogs. One of my best friends, who is a sales manager and her husband, who is a lawyer has two of my dogs. The local animal control officer has one of my dogs. My dentist has one. And I have sold many to other doctors, teachers, and lawyers.
It is ignorance, like yours, that hurts the breed. If you actually did some research you would see how ignorant what you wrote is.
The term pit bull is used to classify several breeds of dogs. They are the only breeds thats bite stats are lumped together. You separate them and their stats will be lower than almost all the other breeds.
Oh... and just so you know, BSL has been proven to not be effective, not a single case has shown a decrease in bites but have shown an increase. The irresponsible owners have turned their eye to other breeds that are less stable than pit bulls and that has casued more bites.
Boulder Colorado banned pit bull types even though labs were, and still are, the number one biting breed in their area.
In my 30 years of experience with APBTs, and 15 years of breeding, as well as the countless other kennels I have visited I have never had a single APBT show even a slight sign of aggression towards myself or anyone else.
I honestly cannot believe how ignorant so many people are about the pit bull type breeds.

Ok, those pit bulls that killed and injured the little dogs need to be put down. Where were their owners when this happened? Why were they not on a leash? What did the authorities have to say and also the animal control officers?
You are wrong in calling people white trash because they own a pit. Not all pit owners are that way. Some owners actually take the time to PROPERLY TRAIN their pits, and take responsibility for their animals.
Personally, I do not like pits that well, (personal experience).
But that is no reason to call people names because they choose to own them. I don't go around calling people white trash because they own them. All you have to do is STAY Away from them. If that is not good enough, then go to your local town council and see what can be done in the sense of a town ordnance regarding pits.
This is why in some towns you can not legally own a pit with out a hefty insurance policy in place, and others they are totally banned from town.

Ignorance spreads fear, and you're a prime example of this.
If you were out walking your small dogs, and a large dog approached yours ... would just let it, without, in some way, providing a barrier between the large dog and yours? I bet my bottom dollar that you would'nt ... and why? because ALL dogs have the potential to attack other dogs ... plain and simple.
I have an American Pit Bull Terrier. I may not be a doctor, lawyer or teacher, but I am a respectable, intelligent mother of three and grandmother of three. I believe I made a sound decision, when I decided to adopt a Pit Bull.
As much as you hate to admit it, it IS the owners that make these beautiful dogs aggressive. ANY dog has the potential to be aggressive and/or kill ... not just Pit Bulls.
When dogs are put in the hands of sadistic owners, the dogs have nothing to do, but what they are told to do, that, or die at the hands of their owners. If a person was beaten beyond belief, then told to do something they know is wrong, but, have to do it or die ... would you blame them? or the abuser? It's sad that humans make such allowances for themselves ... but God forbid if any other living being does the same.
Something else to think about ... is this why Pit Bulls were used in S&R in 9/11? Is this why they are used as K-9 and therapy dogs .... because they are vicious, blood thirsty killers? Please.
Can you imagine if ALL dog attacks, that result in a mortality were published in the news? Good gawd ... there wouldn't be any room for any other news! The media instills and then thrives off of people's fears ... they instill ignorance, and some people are just oblivious to this ... people such as yourself. Sad, extremely sad. :(
Don't hate the breed, hate those who have abused these dogs to the point of aggression. If you want someone to blame and view as a monster ... look in the mirror. It's the human race.

Not all Pit Bulls are bad but there have been alot breed and trained to fight. I have a 5 year old Pit and I know 10 people who have 1 or more Pits. And all are great dogs and NOT one is aggressive. And if if they banned Pits the street thugs will find another breed to do the same thing with. So will you be back on here again when that happens?

I have known 3 people who had sweet loving pit bulls and 2 of the three ended up with children having plastic surgery from being attacked by they own pets. Unfortunately these dogs have been breed over many generations to be aggressive. If you are a responsible adult with no small children and keep your dog confined to your backyard or securely leashed then that is ok. But be aware that this breed of dog is being bred all over the world to fight in rings with other pitbulls. We had an elderly woman walking down the sidewalk in our fair city who was attacked by a pitbull (family pet) who darted out the front door when the owner started outside. The woman died. Her husband who tried to stop the dog was severly injured and the owner says she has never seen any aggression before in her pet. Just be aware that we have alot of people jumping on the I love my pitbull bandwagon and backyard breeders are loving every minute of it. We also have fighting rings popping up all over the United States so I'm sorry but the breed has been bred to attack and kill and should have very strict restrictions on ownership at the very least. Lion and Tiger cubs are sweet and cute and look so cuddly but I don't want one living next door.

That's a really bold statement. I had 2 of the sweetest pitbulls on the planet. I am not white trash, nor a thug. I make over 6 figures and they would cruise around in the back of my lexus. That is a horrible stereo type. Yes, bad people do get the breed, but so do good ones. Just like with any dog, its all about how they are trained and who thier owners are. Its unfortunate the pit bulls get such a bad wrap because of some bad people. Bad people have other breeds too, you just don;t hear about those as often because they don't do as much damage if something does occur.

Boy are you miss informed on pittbulls and it makes me mad. Yeah other dogs bit way more than pitts you just never hear about them. The reason a pitts bit is worse has nothing to do with them locking there jaw nether. They don't lock jaw as people would think. Any large dog will cause serious damage to anyone or other large animals if there attacking. Ask your local human society or look at your local police reports if they filled anything on the someone must have provoked are little innocent German Shepard. Come on are you nuts. Any dog can be trained to be aggressive. How about the pitts that live a good life and never bite anyone. I have a 2yr old male pitt who was trained to be my daughters hearing dog. I have five kids ranging from 14 to 11/2 and he has never went after them. My 1 yr old plays in his ears sticks her hand in his mouth and he just lays there. Now my min-pin will snap at the slightest movement that she doesn't like. Don't knock a dog until you have tried it!!!!

You're obviously not much of an expert yourself. In fact, I've heard about alot of attacks, but most of them aren't Pitbulls, but they're called Pitbulls, just because they look similar. I've never met a mean Pitbull. But I have however met a mean Golden Retriever, a mean German Shepherd, and many more dogs that so many people think are dogs that are very sweet. I bet you those Pitbulls were off-leash, and dogs that probably didn't even have owners, I bet they were strays. In fact, there is not a breed that is called just a Pitbull. Get your facts straight. Have you ever even seen a Pitbull in real life? Yeah, have you heard about the Pitbull that jumped in front of a snake, and killed it, taking a bite to its jaw to save it's master? Yeah, go do a little research before you start hating sweet dogs. Are you also aware, that a Pitbull has never killed its owner? I bet other dogs have. So yeah, shut up.
By the way, the Pitbull, you know, that saved it's owner, by taking a bite from the snake. It died, wagging his tail, looking up at his owner. Now is that a kind of dog you would hate? One that would give up its life, just to save yours? That's the kind of dog I would love, one that I would keep in my household for the rest of its life.

Actually I have adopted two to lawyers. Tattooed microchipped and registered.
Labs HAVE been so over bred and are the most likely put to sleep for aggessive behavior. Difference is the thugs and white trash don't have the labs. They are with more responsible owners that realize something has to be done and not something "cool" to have a vicious dog.
Standard poodles were used years ago in the military they can tear something up.
There is a ban in Cincinnati but they don't enforce it. I think if they would at least enforce it till the population thinned out we could get them back to people that are responsible.
