My family is moving back to America in a few months, and we are looking to get two dogs. We used to have a border collie/aussie mix, but we decided to leave her in the states when we moved to england, so she didnt have to go through the 6 month quarantine peiod. We have reserved a male miniature schnauzer in a shelter, and we are hoping to find another good breed. We will have a large yard and house, and live in the suburbs. I am still in school, but I am going to do competitive obedience, agility and flyball with my dog, regardless of breed. I can offer it about 2 hours of exercise each day once I get home, and my mom will walk it for 20 minutes each morning, and play with it in the yard. We have looked at another australian shepherd and smooth collies. Any other suggestions?
Thanks, Charlotte

Assume that I am talking about one breed in general?
I have an American Staffordshire Pit-bull Terrier, I know that this is not a breed, but my dog is a mix between an AMstaff and a pit-bull terrier, so I call her by that name, Why are people so ignorant as to think that I don't know what I'm talking about.
Why do they assume that I am making up a breed when really, it is the specifics of my dog, and to me it sounds nice instead of calling her a mutt.
It's just like people sayin they have a blue nose or a red nose pit, there is NO SUCH THING, but it is the color of the dog,is it not? That seems to be where the name comes from, correct?
Just like there are blue german shephereds and red ones and so on with other dog breeds!

with everyday new brands being put on the recall list, what gaurantee is there that these brands are not contaminated and may be "discovered" later on when its too late? I am just anxious and worried and wish to switch some other healthier alternative till this recall has been once and for all finalised, is milkbone ok for pups? please help

I have noticed that a lot of health questions are asked about certin breeds and their suseptible disease ex: I bred bullmastiffs, they have several direct health related issues that should be checked for and guaranteed for if bought from a breeder. This question is to help others get direct information about health problems in certin breeds.

I invite every breeder to respond with their breeds pro's and con's to help further educate the general public.

Also include behaviours such as same sex aggression, dominace and trainability. What works for them and what doesn't work. Give every interested owner on this network a chance to know your fav breed in both favoritble and unfav. light perhaps eliminating some of the hearsey and myths

I just recently got stuck taking care of a 3 year old Chiuahua. She was given to me by my aunt that didn't have enough money to feed her dog food. So, she would give her things like boiled chicken, beef, and table food. I want her to eat the dog food that I bought her but she refuses.

Things I have tried:
*Buying chicken flavors-they're her favorite
*Warming the food
*Pretending that I'm eating it so she'll get tricked into eating it
*Mixing a small amount of table food into her dog food

None of these things work very good, and I could starve her until she eats her own food but that seems cruel.
Any suggestions???

I have taken my puppy for a one hour walk two days in a row. Last night in his bath, I realized that he developed little sores on the bottom of his paws from walking on the sidewalk.

Is this normal? Will they callas? Should I stop walking him for now until the sores are gone? Can I use the liquid bandaid on his paws?

I know some people are scared of them because of an incident in their past; that's different. Would you?

I've two neutered male spitz aged 10 and 11 and four days ago adopted a 6-year-old, non-neutered female. She was top dog in her previous household and there's currently a lot of vying for top place going on between her and my 11-year old. My 10-year-old is avoiding her. I obviously want them all to get on. They're great on walks together, but she seems to be quite territorial around the house. Her previous owner said she'd take her back if things don't work out, but how long is a reasonable trial period? Will having her spayed help?

My 2 chihuahuas started vomiting after eating dry Eukanuba in Feb. 07, my German Shepherd got very ill with vomiting at the same time, he was more ill (so it seemns) because he ate more of the food. The little dogs stopped eating it and ate the cat's food. The big dog ate it and had to go to the vet. Once I switched to another brand (not on the recall lists) they all got better. I will be feeding them hamburger and rice from now on. Any suggestions for homemade dog food?

I have four dogs 3 guys and 1 girl. One of the guys and the girl are in heat. Is it normal if the girl is running away after they do it for a while but then goes back for more. This is her first time in heat. They keep telling me to hold her while the guy does his business and they can get in the "lock". I dont want to hurt her but at the same time i want this to be over as soon as they can. What should i do!?!?

I have a 5 months old doberman, and a little over an hour ago, she was outside and yelped in pain. When I ran outside she was laying at the bottom of the steps yelping in pain. She will not put any weight on her leg, but she wont whine when we touch her leg. Its her left rear leg. Could it be anterior cruciate ligament rupture or could it be broken? How long should we wait to take her to the vet? No stupid answers please, we are very very concerned.

Thanks
