I have a 5 months old doberman, and a little over an hour ago, she was outside and yelped in pain. When I ran outside she was laying at the bottom of the steps yelping in pain. She will not put any weight on her leg, but she wont whine when we touch her leg. Its her left rear leg. Could it be anterior cruciate ligament rupture or could it be broken? How long should we wait to take her to the vet? No stupid answers please, we are very very concerned.

Thanks

I just talked to my vet tech that is on call. I am going to take her in first thing in the morning. Thanks so much for all your inputs.

It wouldnt hurt to take her to the vet, by tomorrow if possible. They can tell you exactly whats going on with her leg. Poor pup!

Seriously some injuries must be treated within 24 hrs to have any chance of a good recovery......
I cant tell you what it is from here so I guess you better go on the within 24 hrs just in case. Keep her as still as possible so she cant overdo it & worsen an injury but dont splint the leg unless you find where the injury is since accedently spliting below the injury can worsen the situation.

no i dont think its broken otherwise it'd be painful just by touching and it'd be still crying if it was. Keep an eye for a few hours. If still the same then do take her to the vet. My puppies have done it a few times, one of them even got in a car accident (lukily nothing was broken only a huge scare...) but yeah still alive and well.... kids...what can u do?

Heck she could have done something to her back causing her leg to hurt too (not saying your ssumptions are wrong here, just another thing to add to the worry list)! I'd go now and not wait. Some injuries need to be treated ASAP even if they don't look excessivly bad.

How long should you wait? I wouldn't wait one minute if my dog were in that condition. I would go to the emergency vet. But you can't make people love their animals the way they deserve. Poor dog

I would wait maybe 30 mins.. When my dog was young he hurt his leg and I was really worried... but 15mins later it didnt bother him at all... but when it happened you would of thought some one was trying to kill him he yelped so much... If your not sure.. call you Vet and ask them for asvise!

I would call your vet right now and ask their opinion. If they are not avaible then I would get to the nearest emergency vet .
It not what you see or can feel that is the worst that it can be.

Take her to the vet if she is on pain. The pain would have subsided by now if it were nothing.
