I found a very pregnant Afghan Hound yesterday. I posted a few questions earlier which might help you answer this one. Anyway, she has already had 5 puppies within approx. 2 hours which I think is very fast. I think that they MAY be purebred as they are all black and have long fur and the nose of the Hound etc.. It's been almost 30 mins since the last puppy she had. The vet told me that (just be feeling) there are 7-9 pups in her. I was going to take her for an x-ray to see exactly how many there are but she started labour to fast.

Currently she is in a large sized kids pool panting a lot and the 5 that she has already had are in great condition. I help mom push get her 1st pup out and helped her pop the sack but the vet told me (via phone call) that they think she has had 1-2 other litters so I left her alone. It's clear she's a great mom.

Should I be worried or should I get her to a vet? Like I said, her ther pups came very fast so I'm worried about this one.

I have a cockapoo and she stole a stick of chewed Trident and ate it before I could take it from her. What will happen? Will she choke and die? It was just one little stick! about a centimeter tall and half a centimeter wide! I hope she doesn't die!

Some say the dog might attack children if we put it on a regular raw flesh diet.

In her stools (which are sort of bloody) she has had these coiled, white worms (possibly tapeworms) and they look like one big worm... she's only 7 months old... we gave her deworming, but not for tapeworms. She has refused to eat for 4 days now. I have given her many baths too. She hasn't been spayed either. I think it's the food I gave her... it's newly posted on recall (Ol' Roy brand) and I am afraid my kids would get it... and there aren't any vets I know of around here... we live in the country. What should I do?!

I have a 12 year old Shihtzu who of course I love very much. Her physical health is still good, she will run some when we got with my other 2 younger ones to the park, but she is losing her sight and hearing, and when we are out in the yard, if she loses track of me she starts barking really loud, do they hear high or low sounds better at this stage, as I could wear bells or such and ring when she can't find me. Also, I think dementia is just starting. She is such a sweet, had 19 pups in 3 litters years ago. I want to be as good as I can to her. The 2 younger ones are 1 and 2 and she is feeling left out. I pay a lot of attention to her, but she "can't compete" if you know what I mean. Please give me anything that you know older dogs enjoy, foods, treats, pets, hugs, anything special, I love her so.

The vet said that she made it through the surgery just fine. But when they removed oxygen her heart stopped. We asked them to perform an autopsy and we were informed that everything looked normal. I know that do die while under anesthesia. However, my puggle underwent surgery two months ago for cherry eye and made it through just fine. I'm very upset by this and I don't know what to do, or if I should just accept that she had a reaction to the anesthesia...

I am hoping for an answer from a professional in this field, not links to research websites. I have a Great Dane female that just turned one year old. She has been very rebellious since we got her. She is NOT at all aggressive, but she just refuses to listen.

For example, as a puppy, the primary focus was to ensure her safety by setting boundaries and using the electronic collar. Despite the shock, she chooses to run beyond the border, and she had already been hit by a car about six months ago which she luckily escaped any serious injury.

She is highly intelligent, which is obvious by the way she stares directly at you. She knows when she does something wrong, because she approaches you like a sad child when she's been out of your sight and did something she knew was bad. However, she chooses to do it over and over again!!!

I adore this dog, but I'm running out of patience and I have tried all of the "theories" about control, but she chooses to disobey. Any ideas??

I absolutely DO NOT think spay/neuter contracts are fair. Once you buy the puppy, it is YOUR puppy. That is why you pay the breeder for the puppy. I think most of the time spay/neuter contracts have to do with the greed of the breeders. They don't want you to make a profit off of their dogs unless they are making part of that profit. Show contracts also seem to be mostly about greed, as do breeding rights contracts.

The only contract that seems fair is one that says you will return the dog to the breeder if you cannot take care of it. But unless the breeder is willing to pay you for the dog you are returning, that contract is not fair either, because you could always sell the dog to a responsible person.

IMO, you cannot let the breeder call all the shots. Afterall, YOU are the one paying for the puppy.

Opinions?

My family is thinking about adopting a dog. This dog has been at the shelter since 2003. One of my family members said that he has been in the shelter for to long and we are going to adopt him in a few months. That family member said "that we are going to adopt him because I feel sorry for him". Are we adopting him for the wrong reasons?
