Are you sure it's a wound? All dogs and their wild cousins have a small flap towards the base of both ears that could look like it's torn. I have no idea what it's for, but if you look at the dog in the link you can see it fairly clearly.

It might be ear mites. You could try a flea and mite treatment called Stronghold. You apply it to a small patch at the back of their neck every month. But if in doubt take the dog to the vet.

Yup, it's fleas! A word about bathing the dog, EITHER use medicated dog shampoo OR use something like Frontline. Never use both as you are mixing chemicals which may harm your dog. I use baby shampoo and Frontline. Also use a room spray round the house and wash the dog's bed!

It sounds to me like you are mistaking the small pouch (don't know proper name) on the exterior of the ear as a wound.
Cats have them too.
When I was younger I used to think that if you whispered into them your secrets would stay there forever - LOL! As if the cat would tell other cats my secrets. :p

Probably from flies getting on his ears. Put some vaselline on his ears

could be lots of things- ticks,fleas,scratching,ear mites, the list could go on if your worried take him to the vet and get some cream to sooth the itching.
