depends on the dog. If it is younger or more active, it is going to need food more often. We have very active dogs (pit bull cross and a boarder collie) they get free choice food all day long. A barely active house dog? I would feed morning and night.

The best way to look at it is: how fat/thin is he with how I am feeding him now? Lets say you feed 3 times a day (spreading out is best so they do not wolf their food, but canids are made to do that anyways, so it doens't matter all that much). If you feed him 1 cup 3 times day, and he is a good body weight, keep with it. A good body weight is where you can easily feel the individual ribs, but not see them when he is standing still. If he is in good shape, you will see them when he runs- that is ok, but you do not want to see them when he is just standing/sitting.

That depends on the age of the dog and it's growth patern. Normally, 3 times a day for a puppy, until it's about 4 months old. Then down to 2 times a day until it's about 9 months old, then once daily. Puppy chow until it's a full year old, then a good all around food like Canadae, will do for the rest of it's life.

I'd recommend feeding him twice a day, about 1cup of food per serving.
A good tip is to eat your food first and then feed the dog his dinner. In the wild, the "pack leader" or alpha dog gets to eat first and then the others do. This way, he'll know you're the boss and it helps to teach him to respect you.

If its a puppy 4 times a day, gradually decreasing to twice a day by the time its a year old. You can then continue to feed twice a day, or one larger meal once a day.

once a day is fine.... but two smaller meals a day might be even better.

no more than twice a day, no less than once and make sure he has access to water ALL the time.

All dogs should be fed twice daily. It is better for their digestion.
