Tape worms show up as white, flat, smooth sided, rectangular
or square segments in the stool. I've never seen one curled
up. Round worms are white or cream colored and curly, with rounded bodies.
Dogs with round worms often have bloody stools, often refuse to eat, and when they do, will often vomit worms.
Only dry dog food with gravy in it, or the canned stuff with gravy, or the foil pouches with gravy have been recalled.
However, that will not cause worms, just food poisoning.
Round worms can kill a puppy quickly, if you don't take action quick. The worm medicine they give puppies often doesn't get all of the worms, especially if you get it at Wal-mart or grocery stores.
Yes, your children can get round worms from the dog or tapeworms if they come into contact with the dogs saliva
or feces and do not wash their hands before eating or drinking.
My grandfather was a vet. The kind that would go visit farm animals on farms. He raised a lot of dogs.
His favorite all purpose worming method for puppies and dogs is below.
Mix 1 teaspoon Hydrogen Peroxide solution (the kind you put on cuts) with1 teaspoon of boiled water.
With a medicine dropper draw up 5ml (1 teaspoon) of the mixture.
Pick up the dog. Pry open its mouth. Squirt it into its mouth. Hold its mouth closed till it swallows.
Put the dog down on a bunch of old newspapers or outside.
Wait. It should start to vomit and vomit a lot.
If it doesn't vomit within an hour, give it the other teaspoonful of the mixture.
After it vomits all it needs to, give the dog lots of water to drink. NO FOOD.
It will start to have lots of loose stools with worms in them.
Give more water mixed with a couple of teaspoons of sugar
and a couple pinches of salt.
Offer food 24 hours after peroxide and water mix is given.
If it doesn't eat, give more sugar and salt mixed with water or regular human baby electrolyte solution (Pedialyte).
This should take care of the worms.

Ok. There are a couple of things you can do. First, check around and find a vet. You really should take the dog. It is a simple pill and the worms are gone. They will not hurt your kids. They prefer dogs. Baths are not going to help. It isn't the food that you gave her. You can go to a store such as Walmart or Target or your local pet store. They have medication that you can give the dog for worms. If it doesn't work you will have to take her to a vet. And yes, even though you did the deworming, they can still come back. The dog isn't eating because it's tummy has too many worms. Please, get help ASAP. It is ridiculous to let a dog die over a bad case of worms.

Tapeworm meds you need to get by prescription from a veterinarian, so I would suggest find one. If they look thin and like spaghetti (gross, i know) they are probably roundworms, which should be covered in over the counter dewormers. Tapeworms are segmented and you might see rice-like segments stuck in her fur around her rear. If she's not eating there could be other things going on as well, so for her best interest, I would really find a vet!!! I would also find a different food besides the Ol Roy, it is definitely not the greatest food for your dog.

She needs to see a vet. Also do NOT give OTC dewormers. They are ineffective and can be dangerous.
Ole'Roy is an extremely poor quality food. It is comparitable to feeding your dog gravy soaked sawdust.
There are vets available even in the country.

She most likely has roundworms. Very common in puppies. If untreated they can be devasting so you need to get her to a vet pronto. She must be dewormed and hydrated.

the best thing to do is to see a vet ASAP. at the very least, call a vet to get professional advice as to how to treat your pet until you can get to the vet. or see if the vet does house calls?
