I have taken my puppy for a one hour walk two days in a row. Last night in his bath, I realized that he developed little sores on the bottom of his paws from walking on the sidewalk.
Is this normal? Will they callas? Should I stop walking him for now until the sores are gone? Can I use the liquid bandaid on his paws?

Thanks. I will wait until his little paws heal and then make his walks a little shorter and build up the time. He is due at the vet in a few weeks for his 12 week shots, so if his paws are not healing on their own I will see what the vet says.

First of all, congratulations for walking your dog. Too many dogs don't get enough attention from their owner and are not walked nearly enough.
However, an hour sounds like an awful lot for a little puppy. Maybe you should start with about 20 minutes and build him up to the full hour walk as he gets a little bigger. I'd really curtail the walking until the paws heal, too.

If you think that taking him for a walk is what caused these sores, then I would say just take a little bit shorter walks. If you want to take long walks, continue, but just drop puppy off at home. I have rabbits, and their fur wears down sometimes also. Sometimes they callas, but that is only if they aren't stopped rubbing. Just go a day or two without walking him, and hopefully thing will get better. I would not recommend using the liquid band aid, only because when animals have a wound, they will want to lick it, and by putting liquid band aid in/on it, the puppy will lick this off also. I hope that he gets better. Best of Luck!

You can be doing a lot of harm walking a puppy to far like you are doing. You don't say how old or what breed he is but his bones are still soft yet and walking him on a hard surface for so long can do a lot of damage to them. Don't take him out until the sores have gone and then build up the time gradually and try to take him to some soft ground as well. You say you noticed them when he was in his bath, how often are you bathing him to do this a lot will take the natural oils out of his coat and you will start having problems with his skin.

Oh dear...
Ordinary walking wouldn't do that. Was the sidewalk hot? Little critters can burn their paws on it, if it is: My parents have a cat now that someone dumped in a scorching parking lot one summer when the temperatures were regularly in the 100's. And his little paws got burned, and are still sensitive.
They might callous eventually, but in the meanwhile I believe there are little booties you can put on his feet. I don't know if liquid bandaid will help or not.
Good luck!

Hi, I would say do not use any kind of human liquid bandaid on those. Use the product made for dogs called Stiptic powder. It is available at most pet shops. It is a safe antibiotic, but it may burn a bit when you put it on him. Human products can kill a dog. Also take him to a vet, and see what is causing that on his paws. Many blessings,

You need to see your vet to get cream for his paws, antibiotic, purchase some booties for your puppy, it will protect his paws in winter too, one hour walks with a puppy is much to long, find a dog park with grass for him to learn to socialize with other dogs. Petsmart sells the booties and you can take the puppy to get the correct size.
You can purchase them online too.
