I am getting a brindle colored boston terrier pup with white over one eye. He is for a pet and family member, not for breeding or show. His mother is White (well, really, really light liver - you have to look hard) with all the right tuxedo markings and his dad is brown and white with all the right tuxedo markings. I have since read a lot of controversy about boston's "true" colors. I understand his parents wouldn't qualify for "show", but is there any reason to be concerned about his health or temperament based on his parents color???

Hello all. I'm a new pup owner (Pomeranian). I got him at 7 weeks in December and I love my little baby. I'm doing a great job with him however I fear the approaching summer. As it is only about 2 mths away, I was wondering if anyone could offer a few ideas about what they do to keep their little cupcakes cool and happy during the summer "while they are away at work"?

I'm not worried about how to keep him cool when I'm home. I'm figuring on a very hot day, we'd go for a cool drive in the air conditioned car if we want to get out of the air conditioned house but, what do you do when you leave for work in the day? Especially for a Pomeranian who's coat is pretty thick.

I have no desire to shave his beautiful coat. He's an AKC chocolate sable and I'm considering entering him in a show or 2 and dont want to risk damaging his gorgeous coat.

I'm considering leaving the ac on all day while I'm at work but was wondering if this is the solution for other dog owners as well? Thx!!

I love to play w/ my dog like im another. I growl at her and i slap the ground...I of course do not bite her but its like two pups playing (weird I know) She really has a blast but should I really just be playing with a ball with her or something? I love to play with her and so does she!

We bought him at 3 months already neutered. He is now 13 months. Jake can get agressive with a stick or bone locking his jaw, but but once someone yells he cowers and lays down. We have only smacked him a few times when he's reallly bad (tearing up the couch--- eating the sleeve of my biker jacket) so he's not a constantly hit dog. Can anyone give a little advice?

Today I switched my dogs food, from Royal Canin to Canidae All Stages. My dogs loved Royal Canin, but I wanted something better. I mixed the Royal Canin and the Canidae to wean them of the Royal Canin, and when I put it down for them, they picked out the Royal Canin and only ate the Canidae. I was just wondering if anyone had this experience with their dogs.

I was in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado last week (Pikes Peak region). We found a dog on the side of a road (on a mountain). We talked to some of the locals and were told that the dog had been there for at least 3 days in the exact same spot (no houses for 2 miles in either direction). We called the Humane Society and were told that they would not come out and pick him up because he was on private property (again, no houses for 2 miles) and there was no leash law in that area. The police wouldn't help, local wildlife rescues couldn't help, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo couldn't help. We tried to get the dog into our car but he was so scared that he tried to bite us. So basically this dog was left for dead either from elements or bears. The woman at the Humane Society told me that if I wanted something to change I needed to write a congressman.

What the heck was that all about?? How can a dog be left for dead on a mountain??? Is this really how things work in some regions?

I have three huskies all together. The female isn't the problem with the new guy. We have had the newest one since January. Initially he was submissive to the other two.

Both males are fixed. Oldest is about 6 youngest is about 3.
Recently it seems whenever either me or my husband are outside with the guys they all of a sudden will fight with the younger and newest one being the aggressor.

There is plenty of room in the yard, normally they play well together and so forth. They all share the same food bowl and water bowl because there were fights over the food bowls typically resulting in the bowls being emptied on the floor wasting food. All dogs are maintaining weight.

The newest one also tries to come between me and the older one. I try my best to give equal attention to both.
What can I do to stop the fighting?

I normally can figure probs out, but not this time. Nothing is working.

What are we doing wrong in the "pack"?

She's not even seven months old yet. The vet told us we could wait until she was six months old to have her spayed, but apparently she just went into heat today because she's bleeding (it's only very small spots). How much blood will there actually be? Is this even normal for a 6 1/2 month old puppy to go into heat?

Before any one screams BYB or Puppymiller, some backround. The female in question is a dual champion and has all health clearances, hips etc. She is the sweetest thing. Has anyone successfully bred a dog after Pyo? She is my Dad's girl. After this happened, he got her spayed. Much to the chagrin of everyone, including the vet. She is awesome in the field and my Dad didn't want to lose her. Just wondering.

I've read the installation instructions and they seem easy enough to install if the door was wood but I just don't know about this metal door. Would a jigsaw cut through a metal door?

Do you want to breed(NOT spelled BREAD,btw) your mutt/mongrel "cuz she's *SO* KEEE-UTE & you 'WUV' her"?

Do you think that your "full-blooded" (NO SUCH THING!)animal is AUTOMATICALLY worthy of breeding from ?

Do you imagine that you can properly care for however many pups FOREVER-at minimum 10 weeks?

Do you think dogs have "periods" & are clueless enough to ask faceless( & possibly brainless ) strangers in cyberspace when to BREAD them in that "period"?

Are you prepared for emergency surgery at 3 am to save the bitc-h & pups ...at HUGE COST?
Would you have a clue(w/out asking the faceless & brainless cyberspace idiots) what *IS* an emergency?

Can you KILL defective pups? RECOGNIZE them? Tube feed a litter of orphans-every 2 hrs.for WEEKS? Know about docking & dewclaws & vaccines & weaning & worming schedules?ETC.?

If ANY of these basic questions baffle you....make you uncomfortable....you ARE just a puppymill wannabe.
One litter or a thousand....no difference.

I have 50mg tabs or Tramadol to give my dog for pain. The vet told me to give my Shih'tzu 1/4 tab every 8-12hrs. Does anyone else use this for their pet?

My 12 yr old border collie/sheltie mix was slightly rolled on by the back wheels of a full size truck about 2 weeks ago and developed some sort of infection in his lungs and fluid started building up. He also takes #20/ .75g of Dex (?). He started this treatment yesterday (Sat). He seems to be worse. What should I look for in his behavior? I'm afraid he has a fever and its really warm out. The vet said I should see a major turn around by tomorrow. Which has not happened.
