try http://puppydogweb.com/breeders/greatdane.htm
There are non in Louisiana right now but some in neighboring states.
You can also try here http://www.puppyfind.com/for_sale/?breed_id=58&back=%2Fsearch%2F%3Fsubmit%3D1%26str%3Dgreat%2Bdane%26page%3D1&sid=b6b15932f86f0ef997ef9781c3f10a6e&country=248&state=LA that is a list of pups available, you can contact the breeders via phone or e-mail

I would honestly suggest a different route though, when selecting a reputable breeder you should go to local dog shows and meet breeders, these people can either offer a hand in selecting a pup or pont you in the right direction
A list of upcoming shows can be found on infodog.com

good luck

Go to the GDCA site and look for breeder referals. Also I suggest attending some shows and meeting some of the people there. Be very careful when picking a Dane breeder, there are many out there that are neither responsible nor ethical.

The GDCA site will be very helpful to you.

I would recommend going to the AKC official websitehttp://www.akc.org/.

Click on Breeds and select Great Dane at the very bottom there are links to breeders and rescue groups. If you are looking for puppies breeders will be your best bet. But if you are willing to take a purebred older dog then breed rescues are a great resource.

All breed rescues recommended on the AKC website are purebred Great Danes and they can be a great resource for you in finding puppies as well.

The best place to start is with the Great Dane Club of America. http://www.gdca.org/

This way you can be steered towards a responsible breeder rather than a puppy miller or an unethical backyard breeder (like YA member China).

Good luck to you!

I don't know where the breeders are but...

Please, before you go to find one, look for a Great Dane rescue in your area. There are so many people who see these giant, beautiful dogs and think that they must have one. They don't realize how difficult it can be to live with such a large animal. They don't know that these dogs must live indoors or that they need so much love and attention. They don't consider how much it is going to cost to feed them, the vet bills or all of their other special needs.

So many Great Danes end up in rescues because people don't do their homework before jumping into buying one.

I have 2. A black and a brindle. Everytime I walk them they stop traffic (literally). EVERYONE ask about them, want to know if I'm going to breed them. All they know is what they see.

Before getting mine, I didn't realize how many of these dogs end up in rescues. Many are still pups simply because they get so big so fast. I did get one of mine from a bad breeder to save his life. He had ringworm and they would have shot him instead of paying for the vet bills. He cost us about $2000.00 the first month that we had him but he is worth every penney. The ringworm went away and 4 years later, has never returned. He is the black one. He ended up with one little tiny scar at the bottom of one of his legs, that's it. We get so many compliments on how beautiful, deep black and shiney, and so very large and muscular he is. He is a wonderful dog that I wouldn't trade for a million dollars.

There isn't a rescue in my area, but a couple of them only a couple of hours away. Next time I'll know.

I have had several people offer to just give me theirs becasue they didn't know what they were getting into when they got it and now willing to give them to anyone who will take them off their hands. One of these had already been through 3 different owners.

If I had the space, I would own 4 or 5 by now (just taking what people don't want anymore)

PLEASE check for a rescue first. Like I said, many of these Danes are still pups. They need homes desperately with someone who understands them and know how they must be taken care of. It's not just Danes, it's all giant breeds.

Look for either a Great Dane Rescue or a Giant Breed Rescue (they will have Danes as well as other giant breeds at these). There is nothing wrong with these dogs. Most were registered, just not wanted anymore. Even if you would have to drive a little ways to get to one, it will be worth it. You will get the dog you want and know that you are saving a life.

Sorry to go on so long, but this is something that I am very passionate about. Danes are the best dogs in the world. People just need to stop getting them and throwing them away. NO DOGS ARE THROW AWAYS! I have a schnauzer too. Saved her at a bad breeder set up in a flea market. She is now 15 yrs. old and plays with the Danes like she's still a pup. Unless you want a prize winning show dog, it doesn't matter where they come from. They all need love.
