Some dogs will need them and some will not. My beagle had to have them. She would clean herself constantly, but if she got sidetracked by something or ran around the house, she would drip. Thankfully, we had tile, so it wasn't a problem to clean up.

My friend has a very large yellow lab, though, and she cleaned herself up just fine, and never needed a diaper.

Piece of advice - never put her in a kennel wearing it, or you will be buying a new one! She will chew it off so that she can get at herself and clean herself up.

Also, take into consideration getting her spayed... It took me nearly four years to decide that for Mollie, but finally what it came down to was the moral responsibility of selling a life to someone who might not take good care of it. I couldn't do it, and so I never bred her.

With all the unwanted, abused, neglected animals out there... it just doesn't pay enough to sell puppies.

Question is she an inside dog, if so she will definitely need diapers. What breed is she large or small? I have a large breed female dog in the house with me and she wears diapers during her heat. I had purchased diapers, but was very disgusted with the expense and the fit. I found that buying the fleece material and a box of women's sanitatary pads work great! I just cut the fleece to fit and stitch velcro to it for the fasteners. I can get 6 diapers per yard for a 60lb female dog.

You have already received alot of very good answers but no one mentioned something that I had to find out the hard way. If you do not get your female dog fixed it can get more than with puppies it can also die from an infection, I can not remember what they called it. My vet said it usually happens with dogs over the age of five. When they are in heat their uterus opens, when it is over it can close bacteria in and cause this infection that requires a hysterectomy or they will die. $1,000 and a almost dead dog later I am still wondering why no one tells EVERYONE about this.

Each dog is different so you'll just have to watch. I got a pair of pants from the petstore that you can put mini pads in them & they fasten on the dog with velcro. Even if she keeps herself clean, you still may see spots left on you or your furniture. For me, I was just more comfortable using them plus my dog tore off the diapers. And just in case you don't know, she'll be in heat approx 3 weeks so if you don't want pups, please keep a close eye on her.

You need to have her spayed first of all, and second you need to buy diapers. That's disgusting. Do you "take care of yourself?"

There are doggie "maxi pads" that have a belt attached. Ask your vet.
