I have 50mg tabs or Tramadol to give my dog for pain. The vet told me to give my Shih'tzu 1/4 tab every 8-12hrs. Does anyone else use this for their pet?

Tramadol is a safe pain med to give your dog. It works very well.

Tramadol is a narcotic; rimadyl is an NSAID related to aspirin. My Aussie had severe hip dysplasia; he lived on rimadyl for one year, and then his liver swelled and he became very ill. We took him off the rimadyl and switched him to Tramadol. It worked very well for the rest of his life (3 years), though it did suppress his cognitive function a bit.

It was prescribed for my dog and she took it ok.

I can't tell you if that dose is okay for a little dog like yours. Sometimes vets make mistakes like other people. Meanwhile your dog is in pain.

If I were you, I'd stop pissing around and give the dog the med.

Go for it! You can always get a new dog.

We always dispense it after surgeries for pain - it is safe and works really well with very few side effects.

Yes, it is safe and effective. My vet prescribed it for my greyhound for awhile, because he suffered from and eventually died from osteosarcoma. You do not want your dog in pain.
