I love to play w/ my dog like im another. I growl at her and i slap the ground...I of course do not bite her but its like two pups playing (weird I know) She really has a blast but should I really just be playing with a ball with her or something? I love to play with her and so does she!

My dog knows I am the dominant one and I initiate and end play w/out her getting out of control. She is very gently and just a sweet heart

No. There's nothing wrong with it. Your dog thinks you're a dog anyways, so what's the difference? (As long as you are the dominant one; and, it sounds like you are.) You are doing the right thing by starting and ending the play sessions, as this shows dominance, so I don't think you have anything to worry about, unless you start play humping your dog. Just kidding, of course!

I do the same thing with my dog, and honestly I think it helps make the bond between us stronger. A ball and all is good, but playing on their level evens the odds and they seem to enjoy it much more.

That's fine. My sister and I used to do the same thing with our dog when we were kids. It's a lot of fun and as long as the dog doesn't get nippy keep playing!

It is fun to play with your pup like this, but if youa lways play with them in this manner, you will not establish any sort of dominance over her, which is necessary in order for her to listen to you.
When I use the word dominance, it is not meant like being mean to her or ANYTHING like that. As you are doing now, she views you as a litter mate, one of her siblings. If you teach her to play with her toys with you, then you are using her natural "prey drive instinct", so it is easy for her, AND you still have your role as the pack leader.
It would be great for you to purchase a pet training DVD to see more about what I have said... A well-trained dog makes for a much more satisfying pet/owner relationship. Make sure the video is based on Motivational training.
More pets are taken to pounds each year for not "listening" to their owners than any other thing, but what many realize is that it is our fault that they do not.

if you think that's weird, you should see how my hubby plays with our puppy. there is snarling and growling...fortunately, that's the dog, not my husband...he'll hold the dog by the face (he's a mini dach), and the dog will wrap his paws around my husband's arm, and my hubby will bounce him against the back of the couch. of course, no part of the dog's head is actually hitting the couch (he is well covered), but it is so funny to watch. the dog snarls and growls, but the minute i grab him away, he turns and licks me, so i know he's only playing with my husband.
go ahead and play, it doesn't sound like anyone's getting hurt.

As long as you are not getting hurt and you are both happy, who cares how you play with your dog. We have played like that with our dogs and they love it.

I understand your love for your dog, but she will not know who the alpha is if you put yourself on the same level as her. You are the alpha - the boss. She may think she doesn't have to obey you.

That sounds perfectly normal to me......As Long as it remains playful and she doesn't get rough enough as to where she could injure someone especially a child.......
