In CA there is a bill going through legislature to impose a fine to anyone who does not get their dog "fixed," with service dogs, police dogs, and breeders exempt. Thats bull!!! I don't need to be a professional breeder to be able to breed my dog. I only want to breed her once, so why should I have to pay $500 if I don't get her fixed? Can they really do this?

Lot of Americans have pit bulls because of their powerful jaws but do pit bulls have the most powerful jaws out of all dogs?

Alot of police and army officers use German Shepard dogs, are they the smartest?

Which dog has the most powerful jaws of them all?

I don't personal do this, but I know some people that do.
In order to train their puppy to not whine, urinate in the house, chew things up, etc., they rub their noses in it and swat them.
Does this method really work? Do you think it is abuse?
What would you sugggest is the best way to train your puppy yourself?

We adopted a 3 year old husky/malamute from a shelter couple of weeks ago and we have a hard time finding out how much to feed her :o( Apparently they fed her 'Science diet' in the shelter, but she wouldn't touch it when we gave it to her. We took her to a vet as she had very bad runs for a few days - he said, she was underweight - at 45 lb. Now she is 50 lb. But she is extremely picky at what she eats. She loved canned food for couple of days, now she will not touch it. I've been cooking chicken/beef + rice/sweet potatoes/veggies for her, but today she refused to eat it and would only eat barbecued meat and cottage cheese. By the way, she loves cottage cheese and yogurts. I know that huskies don't need to eat much, but I am worried that I will underfeed her. Most days she will eat the amount that equals about 1 1/2 to 2 cans of food. She has moderate exercise (2-3 hours walk/run per day). Do you thing she is eating enough? If not, how can I get her to eat more? Thank you.

Hi all

We have a beautiful month old lab who has chewed her way through 4 beds. Luckily she hasnt chewed anything else and is generally quite well behaved. Its just the mattresses that we put in her kennel she has taken a liking to. She has lots of chew toys and we give her marrow bones to chew on as well.

Does anybody have any tips for something I could put on the bed to stop her chewing it - but not put her off sleeping on it.

Hope you can help!

I bought a 5 ft tall chain link fence and fenced in a big hunk of my back yard for my lab, Hemi. Now the whole neighborhood is checking it out. Tommorrow they come to attach fencing to the poles which are now buried in concrete. Should I let my neighbor put her choco lab in my back yard when she goes out of town or would this just be a bad idea. Currently, he stays in her house 24/7 except for short walks. She is in the process of building a big house in the country, so she moved next door temporarily.

I've heard that only garlic in raw form is toxic. Is that true or is raw, cooked, or powder that is toxic?

My dog got bit or poked with something a couple weeks ago. Her eyeball swelled up to about size of a large cherry (she is a mini pomeranian). She couldn't even blink her eye. We rushed her to the 24 hour animal clinic where the vet evaluated her, put a cone on her head and gave us some natural tears and steroid drops to put on her eye. We used the tears and steroids explicitly as instructed and she had her last dose this morning. However, in the last couple of days, her eye has become a little lighter, or cloudy than the other one. Her other eye is pretty much dark dark dark brown, but her "bad" eye is just light enough, dull or cloudy, to notice it. I tried to test her vision. I think her good eye was a little more responsive but I really don't know. It's hard to tell since I usually can't see the white of her eye to see if it is moving or not.

He was a male chihuahua and the seller stated in the ad that he had been vaccinated. When i got there she then said he hadnt! so the next day i got him vaccinated, prior to this he was fine.
Then he went downhill from there, we just had to get him put down. Looks like he contracted parvo and the vaccination made it worse. Now i'm really mad because she should have had those pups vaccinated, my son saved for this pup now we are in total over a thousand dollars out of pocket, vet bills, dog, accessories. We are devastated! the person isn't answering their phone and really through their own conscience should give us a refund. the vet said he would have had the virus in him when we bought him. broke my heart to see him going through so much, vomiting and bad loose stools, at least he's at rest now. I want my sons money back though, are their organisations that can help with this? any help would be greatly appreciated!...thanks..Deb

I brought my dog inside for a bit (stays in the garage) and he bit me. Everytime i tried to pet him he always tried to bite my hand. He is a 10 week american bulldog/rottieweiler. In my eyes it wasn't a play bite because some skin did come off. Is this normal? I have little kids around and i don't want him to go around biting them. What can i do?

Spayed is illegal in my town (half the year) in Switzerland. Something procreation rights, and anti-mutilation... But hey there are no dogs on the streets or puppies being killed in shelters.

Although no police officer has checked to see if my dog was spayed, but i was wondering if you could easily see if a female is fixed or not, or does it need a trained eye like a vet?
