I bought a 5 ft tall chain link fence and fenced in a big hunk of my back yard for my lab, Hemi. Now the whole neighborhood is checking it out. Tommorrow they come to attach fencing to the poles which are now buried in concrete. Should I let my neighbor put her choco lab in my back yard when she goes out of town or would this just be a bad idea. Currently, he stays in her house 24/7 except for short walks. She is in the process of building a big house in the country, so she moved next door temporarily.

She moved into her parents house and I have known her and her entire family since before she was born. She is going to be moving out in about 4 months or so. Her dog and my dog are both labs and 1/2 brothers. Yep they know each other and are friendly as all get out.

beware beware, being nice to neighbors is such an awful awful thing, what's next smiling at people in stores? or tipping a waitress even if she wasn't great? what is this world coming to....

I know this sounds mean but i would have a written agreement that you are not responsible for anything that may happen to the dog since dogs can climb fences or slip by you and run out. Since you are not a kennel you sould ensure you aren't legally responsible for any accidents due to unforseen things, otherwise it would be nice for the dogs to have each others company and for them to romp about. Becareful that you don't leave them unattended for long periods labs are smart and go looking for things to do

Be careful, if you allow this dog to stay with you while the owner is out of town, it means that you are legally assuming responsibility for it. While its a lovely thing to do for this dog, if anything happens to the dog or someone else, you are responsible. The owner should really be boarding the dog at a kennel while she is away. But if you really cant stand to think of the poor dog stuck in the house (i know i wouldnt be able to help myself, i would offer too), do it, at least the dog will be happier.

Maybe you could give them a few trials together while you are inside to see how the neighbour's dog goes with your dog and with being at your place with you and not at home with your neighbour. It would be nice to be able to help your neighbour, but you don't know how it will go. Also, if your neighbour is pretty easy to get on with, that would be good (don't want the neighbour to blame you if she thinks something bad happened to her dog while in your care etc.) Good luck and I hope your lab enjoys the area you are having made.

If you know and trust the neighbor well, then it may be ok. However we live in a society that is sue happy. If something were to happen(injury, escape, etc) are you certain she wouldn't sue you for vet cost(if injury), pet replacement(lost).
IMO I would never let anyone put anything on my property without getting a contract that you are not liable for injury, loss, or other factors that may arise.

As long as your yard is secure and the dog cannot get out, I see no problem, giving the doggy some space can't be a problem, as long as your neighbour take responsibility for her pet in all ways.

I wouldnt see aproblem as long as your niehbors dog has all of the shots current with proof they could show you ... you would hate to have your dog get parvo, or any other illness spread from another dog .

It's kinda like a pool. Once you let the neighbors come, they just keep coming. If you let 1 you find it hard not to let another.

Do you know this neighbor well? I would be scared that something would happen and she would get mad at me . . . I would give her the number for the fence company and have her get her own :)
