I have a Burmese Mountain Dog, he's a year old. And I have a big backyard, but I don't have time to play with him. What can I do with my yard to keep him entertained and occupied?

A newborn baby doesn't give much time to take care of him... He's a year old, he's big and we have a big yard.

If you don't have time for the dog, then let someone have him that does. It's so senseless to get a beautiful dog like that, and then ignore him. Big dog, plus big yard should mean lots and lots of fun for you two, apparently it means, big dog has nothing to do, and will get bored, start behaving badly from lack of socialization, you'll get mad cuz he barks all the time, and before you know it, you're trying to get rid of a beautiful animal who has done nothing wrong. Either schedule in some quality time for your pet, or let him go. Simple as that.

Which did you get first? Why in heaven's name didn't you use your head? This is a LIFETIME commitment. You will have to make the time - just like brushing your teeth or anything else. It's all a question of priorities. And what about your other half? What does he do when he gets home? Plunk himself in front of the TV? Snore? Why not put the baby in a carriage and take a walk with your dog on a leash? Why not drive over to dog park? It's fenced and you can take your baby in a harness over your body or in a carriage.
Grow up. You have both of them as responsibilities. And in heaven's name, don't take on more until you can deal with what you have - and that means babies as well as more animals!!

dogs are pack animals and need a social life in order to be happy. If you can not provide interaction with the dog, please do the humane thing and find the dog a good hime where its needs can be met.
basically you are asking this question... I have an adolescent( the dog is in adolescence) and I keep it isolated from others and dont have time to interact with it, What can I do to keep it busy and happy?
you wouldnt expect an adolescent human to be socially isolated and be happy would you? try taking a teens cell phone away and find out what misery really looks like these days.
so you now have a warning.... if you isolate this dog in the back yard and neglect its social needs, it will develope bad habits like barking and digging and chewing and escaping, and possibly agression, and it sure wont learn manners that allow it to be part fo your pack inside. It can also learn obsessive compulsive behaviors, much like those poor kids that are occasionally found locked in rooms all thier lives and unable to cope and emotionally stunted forever.
its not fair to the animal. You have the responsibility to see to this animals basic needs, just like with your new baby. If you can not meet them, do the right thing by the dog and find it a new home.

Do you have a local dog park??? Take him several times a week to run around will help cut down on his frustration level from being cooped up, simply letting out in the yard will not suffice. I find an hour at the park nightly does my dog the world of good and tires her out.
If you don't have a local park, try to at least take for a walk nightly for 30 minutes. Other activities might be playing fetch or catch or frisbee anything to get your dog to run around the yard.

At a year old you might want to consider finding him a home that has time for a high energy dog. At this age he will take better to a new family. If this is not an option, you could set up a tire swing if he likes to pull. Also you can give him lots of raw marrow bones (many grocery stores give them away at the meat cutting section) to eat, because they will keep his teeth clean and keep him occupied.

you don't have time to play??? shame on you. you have time to type on the computer. there is always time to play! I have a busy schedule too with a 90 lb energetic lab in the house I still find time to play. whenever you have a moment go outside and play fetch or whatever suits your fancy. you brought the dog into your home and now you have an obligation to do what is right. since he is so young he NEEDS time to play and interact with someone. If you really have no time hire a kid from the neighborhood to come and walk him or play with him. I have someone come once a week regardless if I am home or not. it's worth the few extra bucks if you really have no time during the day!

Put a fence around your yard that way your dog can wander around as much as he wants and he will always be occupied.

Aww.. you must have at least some time. If you don't (not to sound rude) you shouldn't have gotten a dog. (And I know, things come up, people start jobs, people are just plain busy sometimes!) But as far as keeping him entertained, did you ever consider another dog? Ever since we got a buddy for our dog she couldn't be happier!
