You will need a leash. Put the leash on the dog as if you normally would. Step on one end of the leash and have the other end attached to the dogs collar. You want to give the dog enough lease so that they can stand normally but when they try to jump they can't. Whenever you have someone come to the door or inside put the leash on and step on the end. When the dog tries to jump up say "no jump" or some key word you want to use to teach the dog. You must use the same key phrase (command) all the time. Hopefully with some patience and time the dog will learn not to jump up with you just giving the command and eventually you will not need the leash. Have treats ready and when the dog stops trying to jump up once you have said the command then give her a treat. She will learn just stick with it. Please do not knee her you could injure her.
Good luck.
This information that I have given you comes from a professional dog handler / trainer and if you contacted one they would tell you the same thing I just did to train her.

Have the visitor turn their back to the dog if the dog tries to jump on them. Ignoring the behavior isn't a good idea, but at least they aren't getting attention for a bad behavior. If the visitor keeps getting jumped on, it's best to take their paws of of the visitor, the second the dogs paws are on the ground say "down. Good boy!" Then put them in time out. Hope this helps you, certainly helped me.

If someone ring the doorbell, who is first at the door??? I think your dog. Try this: next time you show your dog a place where she must stay. You are the boss in house, you decide who come in the house not your dog. She have to stay, visitors have to ignore her. That's very terrible for her but so she learn; I'm not the boss, I have to wait to get attentions.

Put her on a leash or lead when people come over tell her
no jump! and pull lead to show her it's not good.Keep this up
for a while, you can knee them in the chest when they are big dogs, it's a reminder to stay down. They jump, you raise knee up, and say down. It's alittle harsh but, they get the message.
She's a big dog and she's a smart breed.Always reward with
praise and eventually a treat to show you're training good
manners.

Well, I guess I am different from everyone else, or maybe I want to be left alone. My dogs are not too well mannered and jump on people when they first arrive. It doesn't bother me, they jump on me all time. If they don't like my dogs they can stay away.

I agree with CMS - there's no need for cruelty. Kneeing your dog in the chest is unfair. It is especially unfair to set your dog up for failure and jerk her around on a leash. Instead, ask your friends and visitors to ignore her, and if she jumps, to quickly turn around - without talking. When she settles, they can turn around again. Dogs learn by repetition - remember this and don't be frustrated. There's never any reason to jerk your dog around as these other posters describe.

Say no!! Down!!, and then if they don't listen, put them in their kennel or your garage until the guests have settled and then let the dog get to know the guests. Chances are, next time, your dog won't jump. Good Luck!! :-)

If you give her more daily exercise, she will be too tired to jump on people.

And when people come over, tell them to ignore your dog for the first 10 minutes. When she realizes her outrageous behavior isn't getting her what she wants, she will calmly approach people for affection.

On It's Me Or The Dog (show on animal planet) they taught people to ignore the dogs; when the dog jumps on them they need to turn their backs and ignore the dog....we practise this with our dog by putting her on a leash and sitting on the couch and then we send someone around to the front dorr to ring the bell and we taught her and by saying no when she tried to go to the door when it was answered and giving giving her treats when she ignored to door she learned to not even go to the front door when people came over---try practise

A gentle nudge with your knee (or your visitors) and a firm NO...will eventually get the message across. You don't have to knock her down etc. just firmly use your knee and the NO command. Good Luck
