Hi. I am going to start cooking food for my dog instead of feeding her regular dog food. With all these recalls and things I read about how dog food is basically like feeding poison to your dog. She is a 2 year old Miniature Pinscher. A spayed female. How do I do this? Do you cook for your dog? If you have any websites that tell about cooking for your dog? Any information you have ill appreciate it.

Thanks

I recently adopted a 1 year old dog from the Humane Society. We have had her for almost a month now. When she came she really didn't have ANY manners. But she is a great dog now, after some training. She is now house trained, knows many tricks, walks well on a leash, and she is VERY sweet and friendly. The only problem we have is that she play bites. It is not hard, or in an aggressive way at all. But if she gets excited the first thing she does is put our hands in her mouth. When she does this we tell her 'No' and immediately ignore her until she calms down and decides not to use her mouth to play. Well this works for the moment. But it has been a month, and still, the first thing she does is put our hands in her mouth when she is excited. She will stop when we say no, but how do I get it to stick that she can't do this? Am I expecting her to change too soon? I am worried about this because she is a 50 pound dog, I do not want her to accidentally bite too hard. Any other suggestions?

My wife weighs 100 lbs, the dog is about 70 lbs, and when they go out together she usually ends up getting pulled around the neighborhood. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get him to stop chasing other dogs, exploring the neighborhood, and generally just acting like a typical pup. Any help would be great. We'd like to stick with positive reinforcement because he's had a rough life so far and we dont' want to abuse him any more than he already has been. Thanks for the help.

I brought my pup to get groomed for the first time and when I picked him up, they said that he was so scared it took 2 of them to hold him down! Just wonderful !! Now he is scared for life and i have to anesthetize him just to get his hair trimmmed. (Its the scissors to the face that scare him). I don't want to spend $100 dollars every 2 months and i hate to think of what putting him to sleep that often will do to him in the long run. I live in the New Orleans area and would love any contacts for patient, knowledgable dog groomers or any other suggestions you may have! Thank you kindly!

My wife and I have had our dog for 6 years, and we love her very much. However, 3 years ago we moved and changed jobs. Our new jobs require much more hours from us, and we have after work activities that keep us busy. Often, we leave at 7am and return at 7-8pm. Over the past 6 months, our dog has been acting up - peeing on our carpet/bed while we sleep, crying/barking constantly while we are gone, and licking herself until she gets soars. I personally think our lifestyle has changed and we can no longer properly care for this pet, however both my wife and I would have an extremely difficult time giving her up. We have thought of daycares, but their hours do not work into our already tight schedules. What do you think we should do?

We just got a new pup who is 7 weeks old. My husband read some website that said they are too young to crate train until 9 weeks because they have no control over their bladders yet. So we have been taking her out like a million times a day to make sure she doesnt do her business inside. Please tell me this isn't correct!

I had to separate mother and pups early due to some medication the mama dog had to have. She's been separated for about 2 weeks, and her pups are 6 weeks old approximately. I tried letting the 2 remaining pups out to play with mama yesterday, and they immediately tried to attach to her teats, which are quite small now compared to when she was nursing them. My question is, is there any danger in keeping mama penned up with the pups overnight before the spaying operation if the pups might possibly try to nurse on her? She and the pups are outside dogs and she cannot be allowed to eat after 9 p.m. the night before the operation, and we only have the one pen. She has been known to hide wild game and gnaw on it, so we can't let her just sleep in her Dogloo on the porch like she's been doing. The pups normally stay in the pen closed up for safety. I just want to be sure that mama will be ok with this arrangement and that it won't affect her spaying the next day. These are rescued dog/pups.

He had his rabies & bordetella shot on Sat, came home exhausted. On Sunday, he was energetic, ate plenty (maybe too much), good bowel movements, and then in the middle of the night he had a small amount of mushy diarrhea. I only noticed the tiny pink spot because he moved on the weewee pad. No parasites in his stool - I had that tested on Sat too. I hope he is okay. I am feeding him his breeder food (Royal Canin) mixed with just a bit of baby food (beef) to soften it up and make it enticing for him. I am a bit worried, he is only a 2.5 pound maltese, but he is otherwise energetic and happy.
