i have a daschund myself, and your dog would much rather eat than chew, trust me. but don't feed him scraps or too many treats, like it has been said. as long as he knows where his dog food is, he'll go to it and eat it. Dauschunds chew a lot, espescially when they're young.

We had the same problem with our pointer. We found two different methods that helped her. One might be more helpful, and that is the Iams Gravy that we'd sparingly drizzle on top her dry food. We give her the one specificaly for puppies because she is on the low side of her "average" weight, but there's several different varieties. We like it a lot better than mixing in wet food with her dry food because wet food tends to give most dogs gas and diarhea. The other trick we use might be more specific to our dog, but it may work for you as well. We'd simple gice her a treat (a Denta bone or other chewy edible bone seems to work best). I think this worked for her because she always wants to eat her treat, and once her stomach gets processing she suddenly realizes she IS infact hungry and wants to eat. Hope this helps!

sounds like he may not be hungry try to ristrict his food. only give him acces to his food three times a day for 10 mins. at a time. If he chooses not to eat that take it away and try again later when he gets hungry he will eat. If you see other thing besides like he has a loss of energy or hi is just not acting right . Take him to the vet.

Would rather chew what?? If you are giving him a bunch of rawhide or treats, cut them out and leave good quality food down for him. Don't feed him from the table and he'll come and get some dog food eventually. He isn't going to let himself starve to death.

royal canin makes a dog food for giant breeds,
its basically looks like charcoal briquettes
stay with me here
if your dog likes chewing these woudl be perfect because he has to really gnaw on them to consume them, and might keep his attention,
they are nutirtionally complete so i dont think it woudl be a dietary issue and royal canin is one of the best foods around
