He had his rabies & bordetella shot on Sat, came home exhausted. On Sunday, he was energetic, ate plenty (maybe too much), good bowel movements, and then in the middle of the night he had a small amount of mushy diarrhea. I only noticed the tiny pink spot because he moved on the weewee pad. No parasites in his stool - I had that tested on Sat too. I hope he is okay. I am feeding him his breeder food (Royal Canin) mixed with just a bit of baby food (beef) to soften it up and make it enticing for him. I am a bit worried, he is only a 2.5 pound maltese, but he is otherwise energetic and happy.

Thanks for the answers! (Except the Parvo ones) - he is energetic, eating well, and pooped solid tonight. I am thinking the blood was actually a bit of food - I looked at his beef baby food tonight and it was pink so it may have been some of that. We're both very happy now.

It's likely that it's just related to the vaccination. They do have a little blood occasionally, it's not good but it does happen, dogs do get hemorrhoids too, among other things. Might not even be blood might be something he ate or chewed. If it continues I would take him to the vet tho.

The first thing that comes to mind is Parvovirus, which is really, really bad. It might be something much less serious, but at this stage of life, Parvo is one of the biggest threats out there. Give your vet a call as soon as possible and get their position on it, and try to keep the little one hydrated as long as the diarrhea continues. It doesn't really sound like a reaction to the vaccinations, but I wouldn't rule it out either. It's a good sign that he is still acting normally, but watch him for signs of lethargy and fever. Hopefully it's just something he ate, but if it does turn out to be Parvo, the sooner you know, the better.

First thing to do is look at the list of all the recalled dog foods and make sure the brand you are using is not on the list of recalled foods.
Second, go ahead and call the vet. He probably just had a little tear as his stuff was coming out, but you may want to make sure just in case, that the vet isn't concerned...

It is ok for pups to have diarrhea ocassionally as their intestines are still developing and get stomach upsets sometimes, as you said its a little so it is ok. If the bleeding is only this once, there is no cause for anxiety, check for any more blood stains the next time he relieves himself if there is, take him to the vet, if there isn't then everything should be fine since you said he is energetic and happy. if he starts to turn lethargic then you 'd need to send him to the vet for a checkup.

Could be just a reaction to the shots but just give your vet a call and ask them if this is normal.
All they can say is either yes or no.

Has he had his Parvo vacine? I'd take him to vet to be safe.
