If it's really bad, or maybe it recently all of a sudden got worse, you should see your vet. Your dog might be sick!

You should get doggy toothpaste that tastes like chicken! It's not expensive, and you can get it an any pet store. You can also get a dental pick. You might want to start out by having her teeth professionally cleaned. Lots of places do it without anesthesia now, and the upkeep is lots easier.

Also, have you tried the eucalyptus pet biscuits? I find those work great! You also could try a different dog food.

You dog may not have normal doggy breath - it might actually be more serious periodontal disease. Brushing your dogs teeth is a great start - but it wont remove the decay and plaque that has alrady hardened to your dogs teeth...it will help slow the formation of new tartar. Your best bet would be to have your dogs teeth looked at by a Vet. I have had a teeth cleaning done on both my dog and my cat and was AMAZED at the results - my dogs breath was so rank you couldn't stand to have her breathe on you. After the cleaning her breath it great. Smae for the cat - an amazing difference. Once the Vet gives you the ok, you can start tooth brushing with doggie paste - you can get this at PetsMart or Petco or at your Vets office - it's cheap. Also consider CET rawhide chews - they are coated with a mouth rinse that actually kills bacteria in the mouth.

you CANNOT use humane tooth paste - you will make your dog very sick!

Failing to address your dogs dental issues can lead to heart disease and kidney failure - don't put it off!

It's time for a doggie dental, go to the vet and have him check your dogs teeth for bad tartar and dental decay and they can tell you about scaling the tartar off during a dental where they sedate the dog, clean his teeth and pull any decayed teeth and then polish them. They trim the toenails and can clean ears at the same time if you like. These should be done about once a year for the rest of his life to keep his teeth from rotting. Bacteria in a bad mouth is also known to cause heart and kidney disease in dogs. Yes you can brush their teeth, ask your vet to give you a dog tooth brushing kit. They have finger brushes with meat flavored toothpastes.

When was the last time your dog has a dental check? Decaying and dirty teeth can cause horrific dog breath. Might be time for a dental cleaning from the vet.

No, you can not use human toothpaste for dogs. There is a special toothpaste made specifically for dogs and cats that can be purchased either at your vets office or at Petco and the like.

If your dog has never had a teeth cleaning or it's been a few years since his last one, I would take him in for a dental checkup asap. He might be having some issues there. Dental problems can lead to other problems such as kidney and heart conditions.

If you want to brush her teeth always use a specially formulated dog toothpaste. Because dogs can't rinse and spit after a brushing, the dog toothpaste must be made safe for pets to swallow! Some human toothpastes contain detergents which can irritate pets' stomachs, and, in addition, large quantities of ingested fluoride can harm pets. I suggest using Oxyfresh Pet Gel... You can probably find it at a petsmart nearby

If you don't want to brush her teeth or can't find pet toothpaste i suggest to buy the treats called "Greenies." They are hard/chewy treats you can give to your dog to chew on once a day, they totally freshen their breath, scrape off plaque and other food. They clean the teeth down to the gum line and are enriched with essential vitamins and minerals-- our dogs LOVE them! I would take her to a canine dentist first, and get a thorough cleaning, that way you can start with a clean slate! After that you can give her the greenies regularly as to not let your dogs mouth get so bad, just remember to keep up the work!

Here is their home page: take a look at it!

Also, here is the link to the free samples page, where they can mail you a few samples to see how it works!

P.s: You can find this at almost every petstore, such as petsmart and chow hound!

The pet supply stores sell doggy toothpaste and burushes-don't use your toothpaste on the doggy-can make him sick. Check to see if he has tartar build up on his back teeth. The chewable Greenies act as a doggy toothbrush(they changed the formulation so now they are safe.) You might want to check with your vet to see if he has an underlying medical condition for the bad breath.

you should have been brushing with dog toothpaste from the pet store since your dog was a pup. now is proably to late. you now need to schedual an appt with the vet to have your dogs teeth cleaned. yes it will cost a lot. he will have to be put to sleep. If you do not have this done your dog can die. The decay gets into the dogs bloodstream and will go to the heart and kill him. THis is not ment to be harsh, nor mean. It has happened. not to me because I brush my dogs teeth as pups, and I have actually had one of mine done by the vet. Was not happy he had to be put to sleep. not permanently just to have his teeth done. But he had a pearly bright shine. know for his smile. Never buy walmart brand toothpaste but the paste from the pet stores are fine and the vets is fine. I order from jeffers pets. they also have something to put in there drinking water to help with doggy breath. I simply want you to understand all the facts. that you dog can dye, from something so simple. A lot of people don't know that. And now I need to brush my dogs teeth as I have not done it in 2 weeks. oh yea 1 of them did get theres done a few days ago.

what you need to do is take the dog to the vet to get her teeth checked out. make sure there is nothing wrong with the gums or teeth. my sisinlaw took their dog to the vet and found a decayed tooth in the back. it must have been there for years. and when they took it out, the dogs breath was 75% better.

try changing what she eats. jst like humans, what we eat may come out of our pores and breath.

there are toothpastes designed for brushing your dogs teeth. i would recommend first getting some gauze and massaging the gums and teeth, then work up to a toothbrush. they should come in a package, i got mine from petsmart.

good luck to you.

call your vet's office - they probably carry toothpaste for dogs (often chicken or fish flavored) - and it's not only safe, it's recommended! your vet probably has toothbrushes for dogs too.

it might take time for your dog to get used to you trying to brush her teeth - it's best if you can start them from puppies so they don't fight it - but if you let her taste a little of the toothpaste first, and just brush a few teeth one day, and a couple more the next day, etc, I'm sure she'll learn to let you have your way!

You can't use people toothpaste for your dog. You can get toothpaste at the petstore or the vet even that is made specifically for animals. Can get a toothbrush as well.
