How can I get my dogs to stop digging holes all over my backyard?

The dogs are seriously bored and need some form of entertainment. They dig only to give themselves something to do. Dogs need intellectual stimulation just like people do.

Take them for long hikes or to the dog park sometimes. They need to get out.

We have 4 big dogs and when they were small boy they could really dig, the best way to keep them from digging (this sounds gross) but it works, take some of their feces and put it in the holes that they have alredy dug and I assure you they won't dig there again, however you may have to do this for a while but they will get the idea.

The easiest way is to not leave the dogs outside unattended. They probably won't start to dig at all if you are there, but if they do, clap your hands or call them to you and praise them when they stop digging. If you are outside with them for a long time, provide them with chew toys and other things to keep them busy.

Now, some dogs are just born diggers and you will never stop them. In these cases, provide a corner of the yard or a sandbox for them to dig in. Place some treats in the dirt (not to deep) to encourage them to use that spot. They will also be reinforced for using the designated spot by the treats.

According to my vet - bury their feces in a hole they have dug. Next time they dig there, they will uncover the mess and will not like it. I have not actually tried this, since we moved and for some reason my dog has not dug in the new yard, but will be interested to see if it works.

You might want to try giving your dog more activities to do in the yard. That was the advice that they gave on animal plant. They said that the dog could be just bored.
