Dogs - March 2007

My dog is gone! We've gone door to door asking if anybody has seen her to about 8 houses up and down the block. We've called for her for half an hour at three different times. We are going to check the pound tomorrow. PLEASE HELP. My siblings and I are so sad about this! We are going to post flyers if she is not in the pound. One of our neighbors sent an anonymous note last summer to ask us to stop her barking during the day or they would call the police. Do you think that has to do with it? Please Please Please Please Please HELP! We need all we can get!!! Thank you so much and God Bless!!!

I already have 2 female cats aged 3 years and 11 months, I also have a 2 year old female Dalmatian and I want another dog. I would rather rescue a dog (from a breed rescue, not SPCA) then buy a puppy from a breeder. This is what I want in my dog:

♥ Must be friendly to people and children
♥ Must be an active dog, able to catch up with a Dalmatian
♥ Not too much grooming, one brush per day
♥ Doesn't cost more then $500
♥ Good with cats/other animals
♥ Medium sized
♥ Not too difficult to house break
♥ Not too many genetic health problems

I was considering an English Springer Spaniel or Pug but decided that a Pug wouldn't be best for me as they are very expensive, also due to the amount of health problems.

Please suggest some breeds so I can look into it! Thanks!

My long-haired Chihuahua x Papillon is 15 this year.
It is the longest I've ever had a dog.
His hearing is gone and his vision is down to about 40%.
He has the regular annual veterinary checkups and shots.
His diet is good and he gets daily exercise.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any personal advice on special care or clues for me on elderly dogs.

i know that if you get rid of pit bulls some weirdoes will come out of the woodwork. as a warning to others watch for people picking them up roughly and shaking them. dont sell or give them a dog. they are looking for a fighting dog. we are plannin on selling show dogs. bulldogs an dobermans. does any one no about any scams out there. also give me any advice on showing them. getting their ears to stick up. training them. any tricks and tips for showing them will be appreciated.

what is the usual cost for going to the vet for a normal check up and how many times should u go? how much is getting a dog spayed, also do u go to the vet twice a year for flea and heart worm check ups and how much is that and do u get medicine with it or do u have to by it if the vet says u should??? im really confused with all these diffrent vet prices and do u HAVE to go to the vet twice a year for fleas and heartworms or is it just a really smart idea to go???

Can Red Mange kill my dog? We have been taking her to the vet for the past 4 weeks. Every friday they dip her. It doesn't look like she has gotten better. She is approximately 10 months old. I give my dogs Iams right now but because it got recalled i want to change there food i prefer food without soy because they get bad gas! i have a 5 yr old dalmation and a 2 yr old pitbull. ! please include facts with your suggestions! I am so mad right now.My dog(pitbull) just jumped out of his fenced area and i didnt notice until the cops showed up at my house and told me that someone had called and said they were being attacked by him. I told the cop to go check on the lady to see if it was true.He didnt go and see if she was hurt.Obviously they thought he was aggressive just for being a pit bull. He didnt even hurt anyone .They said if he got out again they would take him to the pound and i had to pay a fee of $150.There are many other dogs in my neighborhood who are free to wander wherever they want and the cop says nothing to owners of those dogs.Just when i was running after my dog trying to catch him i saw my neighbors border collie out on the loose and the cops were just leaving my house they passed right by and "didnt notice". They then asked me if i needed help catching my dog. I said you know what ?I got a question for you .Why didnt you tell the owner of that dog anything?

My dog is getting older....a 13 year old Shih Tzu.

She's never been like this until this past year...but she's goes absolutely crazy whenever we leave. She pants and tears up the house, and when we get home and let her out...she drinks an entire bowl of water!

I'm worried about her. When we leave her in her pet taxi she goes crazy in there too. There is absolutely nothing that fixes this problem. Any suggestions?

Spikee my 8yr old 8lbs silky terrier went to the vet on Saturday, Xrays and blood tests were said to have turned out normal. All he was given were painkillers and we're told to change his dog food ofcourse. He happened to consume cheap Shep brand dog food which happened to be on the recall list. Unfortunately, it was the first time EVER my parents have given him such cheap food just to give it a test - sadly now my little one is paying the price! He lies down alot.. seems like he has stomach pain especially after using the washroom. He tends to shiver like he's cold even thought it's not, he's usually really thirsty, whines when we try to touch him, and tries to avoid being around us when we are trying to comfort him. What's going on? What should I do now.. just wait?? The vet couldn't really give me an answer since this is recent news. I'm afraid if he gets any worse. Anyone going through this?

ok my friends lab is Approx. 9 to 12 months she has been abandoned and my friends aunt found her wandering and picked her up. She is very friendly towards people but is pretty aggresive towards other dogs. When she was out in the bush before they found her she fought off cyotes and all that stuff and i think she is aggresive towards dog because of that, and my husky really likes to play with other dogs so how can we fix her aggression behavior? They are getting her a muzzle sometime if they can find one. Whats a good way to teach Molly, thats her name, to be not as aggresive, she is a really sweet dog, and i am sure she will get used to my dog in a while. What is a good way to teach her to not be so aggresive and more "approachable" is how i'll say it?
