My dog is getting older....a 13 year old Shih Tzu.

She's never been like this until this past year...but she's goes absolutely crazy whenever we leave. She pants and tears up the house, and when we get home and let her out...she drinks an entire bowl of water!

I'm worried about her. When we leave her in her pet taxi she goes crazy in there too. There is absolutely nothing that fixes this problem. Any suggestions?

We give our "pet rescue" pooch Valerian Root, which can be purchased in grocery and drug stores. For our 45 lb chocolate lab mix we pull apart four capsules and mix with some food before we go, and we also give her one or two whole tablets wrapped inside some bologna or other enticing offering. It relieves her separation anxiety while we're gone. We usually do this when we know we'll be gone for 5 or more hours!

Ask your vet for an herb that can calm the dog...my parents use it for their poodle and it helps when they are gone for more than 5 hours...
