I also ,have a Shih Tzu they are cute little dogs but they do have eye problems. Just takea soft cloth and wipe out the puppys eyes-once a day with just plain warm water. DoNOT put anything in the pup[py's eyes unless directed to do so by a vet. Shih Tzu's have a tendency to do this--it comes with the breed of dog. Also make sure that hair is cliped around the face area, as too long hair in the face can also cause problems with their eyes. I hope this has helped. Good luck.

Poorbear is right. I have a maltese/shih tzu mix and he has the same issue. And trust me going to vet does absolutely no good I have taken my dog to vet so many times for one thing or another and I always try and slip the eye question in (because I'm paranoid like that) And the vet always tells me, it comes with the breed and to clean his eyes once a day with warm water , make sure the hair stays clipped to keep hair from irritating the tear ducts and as long as his eyes are pink and not yellow there is nothing to worry about. He/she's fine. And between me and you I think that it's the tear stain remover because it wasn't until I started using the remover that I had the problems with the smell.

Hi There. I have a shih tzu this is not uncommon. The hair stays wet and bacteria starts to grow. You have that awful smell and staining. I do not use any of the products you find in pet stores, they have peroxide and bleach in them. I use Eye Envy it is all natural and has a flower extract that kills the bacteria. It will not hurt the dogs eyes if you get it in the eye and will not hurt them if they lick it off their feet ect. I buy mine from a very nice lady who sells it on ebay. She answers all my questions and has been a huge help. Here is the link to her site. She has a section that answers questions about this and explains it better than I can. http://stores.ebay.com/S-B-PET-PRODUCTS
