Our family dog died on December 31. We loved her so much and she is irreplaceable. I've heard you should get a different type of dog so we are thinking of a smaller one. Our old dog was a mutt which is all I've ever had. We recently got hardwood flooring and my husband is worried about scratches. I want a dog that won't mind being home alone for 6 hours while we're at work, is good with kids and protective all in one. I was thinking of a Westie, but my husband and son don''t think a Westie is a "real" dog. I actually prefer a bigger dog, but my husband will make it stay on the tile in the kitchen if it is going to harm the floor. I like to have the dog be one of the family...I'm in a bind. HELP!

Does anyone know if he needs anything special, or where should I ask to find out?
My vet in Greece says he only needs a recent travel health certificate from any vet here in Panama, but other people suggest he needs extra papers and vaccines because he stayed in Latin America.
So far he has his passport and his vaccine book.

My female dog got lost 4 days ago. I'm still looking for her all over the neighborhood, putting ads, screaming out her name. I'm SO SAD. I have other dogs, and they all are important to me, but I can't resist the idea of not seeing her never again. Will there ever be a time to mourn her?

I have a 1 yr. old Great Pyrenees, she just had a litter of pups a couple months ago so now she isn't nursing anymore and is back to her normal playful self. Problem is she is shedding like crazy! I know this breed sheds alot...i've dealt with that but she is shedding in clumps of hair....I mean it falls out by the roots.....big fur balls clung together by roots everywhere! She is also going bald in some spots on her back thighs which is where most of the shedding is occuring. When I brush her I have to clean a big ball of hair after each stroke of the brush..it is that bad. Can someone please tell me why this is happening and what it is and what to do!
None of my other pets have this. Thanks a bunch!

My family is interested in a tea cup yorkie located in West Africa with a missionary family who can't really take care of her over there. She can be shipped, but would she need to be quarantined and for how long? How much does it cost to do that? Anything would be awesome! Thankyou!

My son spilled his count chocula cereal (which contains chocolate, not sure if its the real thing or not but...) and before I got a chance to pick it all up, my puppy Raven ate it all. It wasn't much, like 8 pieces or something but still, I know chocolate can be poisonousto dogs. Can this hurt her or is this nothing to be worried about? This just happened about 5 mins ago...

My dog "Itzy" eats his own tail. He has actually perfected the eating of his on hair on his tail. He holds it down with one paw and turns his back and then he licks and bites his own tail until its wet and ugly. His hair no longer is pretty and fluffy. It's stringy and ungly. He's a Shih-tzu and he messes up his look. I don't know what to do.I don't even know what maks him do it. He is almost 2 years old and has been doing it since he was a baby (pup). I don't know if it is soothing to him or what. But i'm frustrated because when he hits us with his tail its always wet and nasty. Help anyone?

I'm looking into purchasing a 'German shorthair' for a hunting dog and she has a white spot on her chest. They've sent me an emailed pedigree line but I wasn't sure if an actual german shorthair could have a white spot?

would society think twice before euthanizing them for cancer, sickness, deafness, blindness, homelessness, handicapped mobility, aggressiveness?
I ask because humans talk, therefore we know we have feelings, so it is inhumane to even think of euthanizing a human for these traits, or illnesses or mishaps.
But not many people consider the dogs feelings. If they could talk do you think it would be any different?
