would society think twice before euthanizing them for cancer, sickness, deafness, blindness, homelessness, handicapped mobility, aggressiveness?
I ask because humans talk, therefore we know we have feelings, so it is inhumane to even think of euthanizing a human for these traits, or illnesses or mishaps.
But not many people consider the dogs feelings. If they could talk do you think it would be any different?

No, people all around the world are euthanized for similar reasons. Just look and any country having a civil war or uprising. The sick and handicapped are the first to go. Just because you come from a "civilized" country that doesn't promote such behavior doesn't mean other countries follow along. Many people are killed each year for much less. Religion, sex, political beliefs and social standing. Dogs in many countries are considered vermin and regardless weather they talked or not would still be considered so.

Your claim "it is inhumane to even think of euthanizing a human" is flat-out wrong. There are scores of humans who want to be euthanized, and many of them actively seek it out despite penalties for it. Until you reach a point in your life in which all you know, every second of every day, is pain and suffering, you can't make the claim that human euthanization is inhumane.

You also seem to be under the impression that human society does not kill other humans because of aggression. What do you think the death penalty is?

So no, humans would not stop euthanizing dogs if dogs could talk. But I'll be sure to ask my pup about it when he starts chatting.

Well usually dogs are euthanized around the age of 16 which in human years is 112yrs old if dogs age 7 years at a time like they say. Also if I was in miserable pain and I wanted to be euthanized I couldn't be because its against the law. Lots of people out there think humans should have the choice but then lots of people out there are against it. For dogs we just want to keep it humane. They don't understand disease they don't understand why they hurt, we do though. So we put them out of their misery. It is a nice thing to do in most cases. Death cause they are not wanted and the shelter is full is not fair nor right. But if the dog is going to suffer unknown periods of time and death is imminent no way around it. Then why not let the dog go in peace with go memory's not ones of pain and despair.

A female vet in our area had a dog come in from code that had been hit on the road. (they bring all sick or injured dogs to local vets) It wasn't a major problem, broken leg if I remember correctly. She euthanized it. She didn't wait for the three day mandatory wait because she didn't want to "waste that much money" on a homeless dog. It turned out the owner came in and found out the dog had been killed. He raised a fit, and even called the police and state's atty. Nothing ever came of it, but she is gone now. So I guess they can kill a dog without contacting the owner, but it is cruel to do that. I remember him coming in with his wife in tears telling us about the other vet and what she had done.

I think we do better for our dogs than we do for our fellow humans..... I had to hold my dog to be euthanized, after a stroke. I honestly think she was grateful. She was 15 1/2 years old, had lived a really wonderful life and I would have been so happy if it could have continued. She was the best dog I've ever had the pleasure of sharing my house with. But she was tired of not living the life she was used to. And yes, she did "talk" to me. I could see it in her eyes and the way she acted. It doesn't take much to "listen" to our pets. We can tell how they are, what they are thinking, what they want, if we make the effort. They certainly try real hard to communicate with us! Maybe my Kari would have told me to put her down sooner...
Too many people are forced to live out their "natural" life in pain and suffering. We are kinder to our animals than we are to people.

Dogs do talk. All animals talk. They speak to each other in their own language. Maybe if we spoke dog things would be different or if dogs spoke a human language it would be different.

Also, I believe if dogs could speak with humans the whole human dog relationship would be different. This just opens a whole can of worms.

Imagine if a Pit Bull could talk. Then what? These dogs like a couple of other breeds have extremely aggressive tendencies. Of course there are humans like that too.

In all honesty I think we should euthanize humans who have no hope are suffering. we do it for animals, but we let our families suffer until they do. I honestly think that sometimes those mercy doctors have the right idea. If I am dying of cancer and the next few months of my life will be nothing but pain and suffering, I don't want to live through that.

I know I will probably get a lot of bad review for this but its ok.

this is for lovingclementine, yes i know what it is like to have a dog dyng in your arms. and hour before the appointment to put my dog to sleep she died in my arms. I think that things would be so much different if dogs could talk or any animals. I thought about my dogs feeling the hole day that i had to make that desicion. i wass going to have my horse vet come to the house and put her down there, but i couldnt get ahold of her. so i had to call a regular vet. but i didnt have to go to the appointment because i think my dog was thinking about me that day too, and how bad i would of felt if i had to sit with her as she was being put to sleep. thats why i think she went at my house in my arms and hour before the appointment.

yes i think so some would ask for it, many owners will allow their pets to suffer a agonizing death just so they can have them a little longer, even when its clear the dog or cat is dying, animals know when its time to go just like people do. they depend on us to make the right decision for them hopefully its not a selfish one

I think dogs can talk LOL. I just think we don't listen to what they are saying. People that are deaf can let you what they are saying Right? That's because we are tuned in to there needs be we still treat dog as if they have no feelings. I try to listen to my dog. And Yes if he comes ill and can no longer or no longer want to function in society as much as it pains me I would CONSIDER letting him go peacefully. Just as I would want to. I know that when its my time God will let me know and my family as well I want to go out gracefully like the Lord wants me to. Same way with my Baby (my Dog) he'll let me know and I'll listen to his last wishes.
