I'm sure a lot of people are going to hate me for saying this, but why don't you talk to the vet about cropping her ears down a bit? I don't know much about cropping, so I don't know if there's an age-limit or anything, but it's worth a conversation, at least.

For some breeds, cropping and docking are done to prevent injury to the dog (like getting caught on something in the field). As much as you might not like the idea of cropping, it would stop your dog from injuring herself. Plus, cropping is much less likely to get seriously infected. A torn up ear dragging on the ground and dirt is much more likely to cause serious problems.

I'm not saying it's your only option, but I do really think it's something you should seriously consider, for your doggie's sake.

Run a piece of SOFT string or yarn under one ear , across her head and under the other ear, then tie it in the back just tight enough to lift her ears the needed distance. This will not hurt her or her ears. She will grow out of this.

She'll grow out of it. In the meantime use a snood as referenced above.

This is what happens when people don't follow the standard or consider original purpose when breeding

I'm assuming she'll eventually get used to walking properly without stepping on them. Although, I honestly can't help you there - never owned a basset hound.

Good luck!
