Dogs - February 2007

My dog's nose started cracking and peeling about a month ago. I have tried using A&D Ointment and Eucerin lotion a couple times a day and it hasn't helped at all. At first it started at the very top of his nose closest to the hair line...it has continued down over the front of his nose. Any suggestions? Any time I try to put something on it all he does is lick it off.

My lhasa apso 8months male dog is like 2 inches long. Is this normal? The fur on it and tail itself are not long like the normal lhasa apso dogs on webs and shows. Since I adopted my dog, I'm wondering if his previous owner had cut his tail? I heard people do cut certain dog tails to fit dog shows requirments.

we just bought a puppy today. It's a cairn terrier, male. You know the dog from the wizard of oz. Something not too comon, but not too crazy either.

I have a 13 week old male boston terrier puppy named Peanut. He's adorable, but sometimes he gets over excited when playing and gets a little rough. He bites sometimes, and he's not doing it to be mean... He just seems to think it's part of playing. He tries to chew on us like we're big toys! He will also bite our ankles when we try to walk from one room to another.

I don't know how to get him to stop! We try to remain calm, as it just makes him more excited when we react to him, but it is difficult when his little razor-sharp teeth are piercing our skin. He is such an enjoyable pet when he isn't biting us. Please give me tips on how to train him to stop this behavior!!

I have a mini dachshund that I am trying to sell. I have put her in the local paper twice and put up signs in stores. She is registered and spayed and wonderful with children. What is the problem? Am I doing something wrong? Any ideas? I really need to sell her; she was my mom's and I am selling for her. I don't have room for her myself. Please do not suggest ASPCA because we all know what happens there.

My dog has been acting wired for 3 days now and i think she ate a mouse or she mite have a cold but she wont use the bathroom or wag her tail...she is a jack rusel and usual is hipper bust now she wont do anything...help!!!shes always cold and she sleeps alot...anything you can think of that would help?

My neighbor has a male rottweiler, and in the afternoon when I get my kids off the bus this dog sits at the end of his driveway and barks and growls at me. He is a very mean dog. We live in an area with no leash laws. We have spoken to him many times and even called the police. They told me I could only shoot him if he comes into my yard. Can anyone please give me some advice on what I should do.

Yesterday I bought a 8 week old Chihuahua and he was very happy and running around at the breeders house. We did have a busy day yesteday and probably didn't get home till late. He has been very lethargic and not moving around since and just wants to sleep. I let him sleep in the bed last night and whenever he woke up I brought him to the piddle pad and he did great but today he peed twice laying down with no warning that he had to go. He has eaten and had plenty to drink but every so often he seems to throw up alittle bit, I am feeding him the food the breeder gave me. I just gave him alittle this morning as I thought he would be quite streesed out. He doesn't seem to be in any pain but just wants to sleep, I do wake him up every half hour or so hoping he will want to play but he just lays back down to rest.
I will be calling the vet tomorrow but was hoping to hear back for some suggestions. Thanks so much

I have 2 pit pupps and I just noticed that they have fleas. I also noticed that they have been shedding part of their hair because of that. They're small areas, but they're still visible. I need some effective please!!!

Weimaraner since this breed could get hip dysplasia? The vet will not check him till his is 2 yrs old. He is fine shows no problem now but I would like to know how to provent it.

Is it bad for a dog to be on cement all day? Would it cause there joints to be in pain due to the hard surface???? Because my whole back yard is cemented and there’s only a little bit of grass for the dog to do his business, but he isn’t really on cement all day he has a really comfy bed to sleep in.

yikes i just got a bichon/poo mix 2 weeks ago and I am having a terrible time housebreaking him. I take him out every 2 hrs to do his business and he just stares at me i walk around and when he does go i reward him. But he is still leaving tootsie rolls all over the house and wee wee spots. I have a bichon and I dont remember it being this difficult. My new puppy is also making a land mine in my backyard he is digging all the plants up. I am so frustrated and my hubby is not as patient as I am with him.. any suggestions on how to housetrain would be helpful.......

I have a lhasa apso 8 months puppy. When I pet him while he is eating, he growls at me. I tried taking some food from his bowl and feeding him with my hand to show that I'm not taking away his food. But that didn't work.I know I shouldnt bother a dog when hes eating but I don't want that behavior at all. He's also aggressive about his bones. Any suggestions to what I can do besides take him to a trainer?

I have an eight month old beagle and I was wondering when she would go in heat. She is an indoor dog, and only goes outside to use the bathroom (on a leash). The main part I am worried about is the bleeding and how I am going to be able to keep my house from being ruined by it. I know she won't keep a diaper on.

We want to breed her, that is why she has not been "fixed". No we aren't going to do it for money. She is a pure bred, and her parents have won several awards in shows and such.

My basset hound Cloe does some pretty wired things.

For on she LOVES to smile! Its so cute! I didn't even train her to smile! Here is a picture!

Cloe also can get annoying by sitting on you.
I don't know what causes it but she will just decide to sit on your head while you are lying down. But I just say get off, i don't punish her. Shes too cute!

Oh and theres another thing, Cloe and socks! She will sneak into a room and actually take a sock from a basket and throw it around the room! I've found about about 14 socks behind the couch alone!
