It does seem a bit high, but not dangerous really. Does your dog get a lot of exercise? Do you live in a dry climate, or is the air in your house really dry? My dog is relatively big, but she also drinks a LOT of water, especially when she plays a lot. Dogs may have the tendency to eat more than they should if given the chance, but most animals won't drink themselves to death. You just may have to let your dog outside more :)

You say "every night", do you mean from the time she gets up in the morning till she goes to bed? If it is all day long, it sounds a little high, but not alarming if you are in a hot or dry climate (house is hot or dry inside counts).
If she drinks that much just at night then it sound VERY high and I'd suspect something is wrong. First guess would be diabetic. If she is on some medication it will make her really thirsty too, like steroids.
Give the vet a call for a check up if this is something new or unusual for the dog to do. That is good that you noticed something like that, early signs on problems are hard to catch usually.

That seems very high, especially for that small of a dog. It sounds a lot like there might be something wrong with his/her kidneys. It's probably not a case for an emergency trip but schedule an appointment with the vet as soon as possible.
Question: how much is s/he going to the bathroom every day?
One more: how old is s/he?

Did you mean in a day? If a from day to night, maybe not, depending on how hot and arid your climate is, and how hot-natured she is. But, could also be a sign of diabetes. I suggest checking with a vet to get his opinion. Pure-breeds do seem to have more medical problems than the average "mutt."

Yes, that seems like a lot of water. I would take your dog to the vet to rule out diabetes or kidney problems.

That's 2 1/2 quarts, which is quite a bit for a dog that size.

It may be a sign of diabetes, does (s)he have any other problems, like diarrhea or has (s)he been lethargic lately? My cat had all these signs so my mom took him to the vet and we found out he has diabetes. With insulin, he's ok though^.^
