Apparently the dog has been fed from the table/plate. This would be a learned behavior and therefore has to be unlearned.

If it is not possible to close the dog out of the room while you eat, then the next best thing is to put him in another room and tell him to stay.

Or, if you have a crate or a fenced in backyard, whenever he begs, put him in his crate or put him out in the yard. Be consistent and he will start to understand you don't want him to beg.

ignore the dog's begging, tell them no in a stern voice. But i've found that the more attention you give the dog, weither postive or negative, while you're eatting, they will beg even more. try getting him to lay down. They mostly just want to be in the same room, make sure they're not hungrey. make it a habit to feed the dog when you get up from the dinner table, letting him know your the boss, you get to eat first, then him.

Don't ever feed them from your plate while you are eating. Ignore them, firmly say No, go lay down. Don't look at them or talk except to correct. I know its hard to ignore those pleading eyes. Give them their dinner when you eat yours or try a chewy bone. After all, you started this! Be consistant and you'll win. All in the family must do this, not just one person.

Tell the dog "NO!" and make him go lay down in his bed, and don't let him come over until you're done eating. It worked for my dog should work for yours.

Turn your back away from him, do not make eye contact. If you are eating, put the dog outside.
