That is a very good question and I gave you a star.
You don't see a Postman, Lawyer, Priest, Officer Manager, Bank Manager, teacher or any educated person being pulled down the street by a muscular dog.
Daa
It is the low education level, the little guy needs a big dog to make him look tough. It is sad, so very very sad.

Everyone does not know that. That is an unfair myth. Un-educated people like to own any big strong dog that they can train to be mean. By nature, pit bulls are about the most loyal and loving dog that you can find. If they are bred and trained to be mean to people, perhaps they will. But in the actual breed of "pit bull terrier" the trait of being mean to people was bred out of them. Pit bulls who attacked people were put down because that was not what they were bred for. Check out their scores on Temperament Tests, they do just as well as the "good" dog breeds. They are NOT known for just snapping. Yes, they sometimes have a degree of dog aggression, but that is bred into the dog (they were bred to take down bulls), just like other dogs have small animal aggression or prey drive (because they were bred to hunt small animals). This does not mean they will attack children or people. Most real trainers and breeders will tell you that they are not good watch dogs because they will sooner lick an intruder than bark at them. It is sad that so many people think poorly of these amazing dogs, because as MANY pit bull owners would tell you, they'd never trade their little smooshie poo lap dog for any other dog in the world. That being said, pit bull owners have the responsibility of making sure that their dogs are well trained and well socialized.

Do some research you dumbass. Pitbulls arnt actually mean. Research shows they actually make good family pets if they arnt abused or forced to fight. This shows how much of an ignorant and uneducated person you are. Pitbulls are great and are my second favorite dog next to Jack Russell Terriers. In my obidience training school there were two pitbulls and they were the smartest dog out of all the others and they were always quiet and never barked like the other dogs. And actually research shows that labs are naturally meaner than pitbulls.

I think they are gorgeous dogs. If I didn't already have a cat and a small dog, I would probably rescue one. I might even rescue one next time around.
They aren't all mean and all are not owned by undereducated people. Kind of ironic that you would make such an undereducated generalization.
Yes, many are bred and trained to be mean. Yes, there are many morons out there who own them. But, thousands of people are working to change that. Rather than complain about it on a website like this, why not contribute to changing that image? Why not volunteer with a rescue group? Why not write a letter to your local politicians asking for stronger anti-puppy mill and backyard breeder regulations? Complaining doesn't solve anything, unless it's to the right people.

Why do people like you instist on bashing the breed? Have you ever owned one? If not dont judge a book by its cover. The breed was originally bred to fight. Over the years the breed had been tamed and domesticated to be loyal pets. As the owner of 2, people like you constantly pointing out the bad points of the breed or at least what you think are the bad points is upsetting.

I have a pit bull and she is not mean and I am not uneducated, unfortunately a lot of people who don't understand or care to understand the work that goes into owning a bulldog end up having them and thats where the mean dogs come from. They are not born mean or vicious they are raised to act like that or live in a negligent home that drives them to be mean.

You are soooo wrong. Pittbulls are not mean, they are specifically bred to be friendly towards people, if one is aggressive in any way its all about the owner and how that person trained them. Low class people buy them to make money off the fights they put them in, and they get them because they are intimidating to people like you. If you don't know anything about this type of dog then don't bag on them because of the bad things you hear about them. Huskies and Jack russels and border collies have killed or attacked just as many people as the supposedly aggressive dog.

I have 3 pitbulls and I wouldn't change it for the world. My husband works night and they don't let anyone in our yard that isn't suppoed to be there. They are probably the most loyal dogs that I have ever had. They look tough and all that, but they are the sweetest dogs ever. My 2 yr old son crawls all over them and they enjoy it. I think it is all in how you treat them and raise them to be. And one of the is deaf and knows "sign language". She obeys better than my neighbors dogs... LOL! Pitbulls are not the problem,it is the idiots out there that train them to fight and be aggresive that should be punished!!!

I dont know why certain ppl like pitt bulls . I dont . I used to live with someone that had one and it went after someone right out of the window right through the screen. It took him a lot of time to get that dog off of that woman and she ended up suing him for the medical bills and many other things . He ended up putting the dog down and paying out alot of money .
