dog of coarse. dogs are very loyal and cats arnt. dogs are active and smart and cats are lazy and dumb. if you were getting attacked by someone a dog would protect you but a cat will cowardly run away and not help its owner.

I have 2 birds 2 cats and a dog. The dog is much more dependent than the cats. You have to go outside and clean up after your dog, dogs don't have the expense of litter but need to go out even if there's snow, rain or if you're ill. Cats use the litter box which is right next to the toilet and clean up is quick and easy. The litter box doesn't smell either if you keep it cleaned out and changed regularly. Dogs need bathed, Cats bath themselves and should be indoor only. You can leave cats with food and water for the weekend and they're OK, dogs must go with you or have someone come over to let them out. Cat's can be snobs or super affectionate. Most all dogs are affectionate. As for birds... well they are just different, don't cuddle much, stay in the cage most of the time and are very loud! Oh which reminds me, neighbors won't complain about your cat barking. I really don't have a preferance, I love all my critters, but as I get older I find my cats are easier to care for. =)

I don't mind dogs as long as they are not little yappy things. But like I have said before, you never hear of a cat mulling somebody to death, they don't pee all over you when you walk in the door, you can fill the food bowl to overfilling and leave the toilet seat up and go away for the weekend, and no going out in the dead of winter to go for a walk to take care of "business".
Also, you don't have to listen to incessant barking when company comes to the door or there is another neighborhood dog barking.

Cat all the way. I had both growing up. The dogs are great for talking to when you are down, but a dog on your lap just isn't the same as a cat purring away.

I love both, but from a "convenience" point of view, cats are much easier. You don't have to get up super early to let them out, don't have to make sure you're home at a certain time so they won't go on the floor, and you can go on a weekend trip and just leave them in with extra food and litter boxes.

I like cats better, because they are more independent and are content just to lay on the back of the couch.
Sadly I am allergic to them, so I am a dog person.

I love them both, but I'll say I'm a dog person since that is what I have.
