Dogs - February 2007

My dogs has a vet appointment in 5 days. He is getting more and more sick. He is sneezing alot ( he was sneezing blood a few days ago but stopped). His nose is dry and cracked, also his paw pads are flaking. He drools alot and his eyes water ( he constantly has eye boogers). He is licking his paws and grunts every time he sits or lays down. Should i reschedual his appointment to be sooner or do you think he can wait until wensday?

I had just adopted a 52 lbs, 2 year old Lab/ Bassett Hound mix named Orville and he is underweight (needing to gain like 15 pounds at least) I got him some Purina High-pro that is high in protein and fat for active dogs... Im trying to feed him 3 times a day until he reaches the right weight.. Is there anything else other than tablescraps (I know some healthy choices like chicken and hamburger and rice) but is there anything else I can give him so that he will gain weight faster?? Like vitamin supplement? ? Thank you in advanced from me and Orville!!!

It would have to stay outside, but we'd probably get two, so do know any breeds of dogs that get on well together? Also what age should you get them?

I have a year old Boxer. Is it safe to feed it butter mixed in his dry feed, he really likes it.
I do mix other foods in with it on different days ie. fish ect. Is butter harmful.

My beagle is 7 years old and I found one of her teeth on the kitchen floor. She is very healthy and doesn't appear to be in any sort of pain. Also, there is no swelling or sensitivity to the touch. Basically, I want to know if this is normal or something more serious that I should address with a trip to the vet. Please help!

My pit was stolen the pound found him and brought him home but his leg is broke and he is in pain. I can't afford to take him to the vet. They want $80.00 up front to even see him any help would be appreciated.

Nothing has changed in her eating habits. Health wise she is fine, but she is shedding more than usual. Quite alot. It's been going on for about 1 1/2 wks. What do you think is causing it? And is there anything I can do to minimize the shedding?

I am taking him to the vet in the morning but am starting to think maybe it would be better to take him to emergency? He walks OK and is a older dog. He is drinking just a TON of water has some light drooling and doesn't want to eat. We are trying to figure out if its something that can wait over night or if he should go in now.

health and she is playing, eating and everything. but after a few seconds she'll start whining. when i let her out she looks at me and whins for me to come out then she'll stop and go to the bathroom. its really strange. shes a bout 2 years old. could she be pregnant? i have a 3 year old male bichon they really dont even try to mate though... its just really wierd shes never acted like this yet shes not sick at all?im taking her to the vet tomorrow just to make sure.....very confused!

I have to put her in the cage while I am at work now during the day and when I come home, after taking her outside, she runs under the bed and hides for about 1-2 hours--apparently mad at me. She really seems to be distressed at the change and I'm not sure what to do. Most people say their dogs love thier cage and often sleep in there with the door open. Not the case with my dog-Chesney. She will hide when she thinks I am leaving or is hesitant to come in from outside for fear she is going in her cage. I never used to the cage to punish her and we have always had a great relationship until now!

My 5 month old puppy is throwing up blood it almost looks like blood clots...i would take him to the animal urgent care place here but they want a 1000 deposit because they will keep him and i dont have that kind of money laying around...its sad but true..my vet was able to make an appointment to see him tuesday (mondays presidents day apparently) but i dont know that he will make it through the weekend....he has already had all vaccinations and been tested and vaccinated for parvo...what can i do for him for the time being????

my dog takes my cat's turd out of the litter box (wirh his mouth) and he won't stop no matter how much i punish him.cleaning the litter box dosn't help because the cat ALWAYS turds.

I have a Boxer/pitt and a white shepard/pitt--and they got into it--I weigh 85 lbs., the 2 dogs 2gether weigh 200 lbs., I couldn't get them apart---after a half an hour of them trying 2 rip each other apart-- i finally got them separated....the shepard has wounds on her ears & head that are still bleeding--no I can't go 2 a vet--no $$$ for that---is there something i can use over the counter to help
with the bleeding and/or wound care?

Chezno, a Pure breed lab, at my rescue (Rusty's Rescue & Adoptions) was attacked by A Evil rottie mix on Feb.16, He is usually very good but after today he got A huge fear of other dogs. After getting his ear removed, All of 8 people on hold for chezy had seen him and didn't want him anymore! Do you think he may be homless forever? I used to have a other earless dog that had been so close to an adoption, but had never fouund a home after that!

He has also vomited a little bit, stomach vial. He still has an appetite and is upbeat. He's always had a weak stomach, and often vomits if he drinks too much water too fast. The excessive drooling is not common for him. I have some canine cephlexin 500 mg i was wondering if giving him this would help. Thank you.
