This is not uncommon - dogs eat almost anything. You're best bet is to put the litter box somewhere that the cat can get to it, but that dog can't. You can't punish your dog - it's not his fault! We put our cat box on the 2nd floor where our dog has no access to.
Good luck!

Cat food is very high in protein, and this makes kitty's feces smell and taste delicious to your dog (like a treat). You might try sprinkling chili pepper on the feces and leaving it in the box for your dog to eat. First give him a sniff of the stuff, make sure he smells it. Put a little in his mouth right afterwards, so that he associates the smell with the taste. Then sprinkle some in the litter box, on the feces, and leave it there for the entire day. If he tries to eat it he will "burn" his mouth. But chances are he will not even try, since the smell/sensation experience that you will teach him with prior. He will smell the chili powder on it, and that will turn him off of eating it. If that doesn't work you can buy a product called "Forbid", "Dis-taste", or "Deter" and follow the directions on the packaging.
Another option is to move the litter box to a room he can't access, but that the kitties can. Or go to the pet store and buy a top-entry litter box (see source below) or one of those self-cleaning litter boxes. Your dog won't be able to get to the feces, then.
Good luck, I hope these ideas help you!

This is normal... all dogs, if given the opportunity, will eat feline feces. Your best bat is to put the litter box somewhere the cat can access it and the dog cannot... I installed a Dutch door for this purpose. Leave the top open and the cat can jump over but the dog can't get through the bottom. Or a cat door installed in your bathroom door so the cat can fir through but the dog cannot.

First stop 'punishing' your dog for acting naturally, it will only upset both you and the dog. Consider putting the litter box where the dog cannot get to it or fencing the litter box so the dog cannot get to it. Cats can and will jump over kiddie gates that will stop a dog.
By the way, congratulations on having both types of animals as pets; I hope yours get along and are friends. that's kind of neat isn't it?

I would get a cover for the litter box . Dogs love to do that. You can also try putting something bitter , you can get at a petsmart, on the "turd" , the dog will not like it and wont eat them anymore..

It is a common behavior in dogs called coprophasia. My dog loves rabbit turds. He went through a phase where he ate the feces of other dogs, but he no longer does that. For my dog, it was an indication of digestive issues. It can occur for a number of reasons, but he probably just thinks the cat turds taste good. Gross, I know. You can try talking with a veterinary nutritionist - they might offer some suggestions on how to quell his desire for cat poop. Good luck.

Your dog eats cat feces because, believe it or not, he can smell past the nasty odor to the bits of undigested food that are still present there. That's what he's after. He's not really hungry nor is he missing anything in his diet, it's just a doggy thing to do.
Stop stressing yourself out, there is no real way to stop him from gorging himself on cat poop, except....beating him to the cat box and cleaning it immediately or putting the box in a room or up so high that only the cat has access to it.
Good Luck.

put a mouse trap in the kitty litter box and when he gets into it the snap alone will scare him if nothing else. but make sire the kitten doesn't get in there before you dog has a chance to set off the trap. we did that with our st Bernard cuz he loved getting into the garbage cans. he is garbage can free for over a yr lol

Okay do not feel bad. I have a little black pug who always goes in the litter box. I call her name and she wont come out of it. Once she came out she had a piece of cat poop in her mouth. My pug will never stop either. Like i said dont feel bad.
