Chezno, a Pure breed lab, at my rescue (Rusty's Rescue & Adoptions) was attacked by A Evil rottie mix on Feb.16, He is usually very good but after today he got A huge fear of other dogs. After getting his ear removed, All of 8 people on hold for chezy had seen him and didn't want him anymore! Do you think he may be homless forever? I used to have a other earless dog that had been so close to an adoption, but had never fouund a home after that!

His ear was so torn off that they just had to stich it up quickly.

Poor Chezno! :-( You know, I think that if you "advertise" him right, through a service like Petfinder.com (bill him as an "extra special and very unique 'sweet survivor'" who desperately deserves a great, loving home with an owner who has a big enough heart to look past his little imperfection.") you might be able to find a great home for him.

You might also contact a large rescue group like Best Friends in Utah; you can find their website at www.bestfriends.org, and their main phone number is 435-644-2001. They have a great track record of successfully placing "slightly damaged" dogs like Chezno, and I bet that they would have some great suggestions for you, if you explain your situation. Where are you located?

Don't give up on him... I am involved with a national volunteer network of people who work to place and transport blind and/or deaf dogs who get dumped at shelters and rescues (most potential adopters would tend to overlook these dogs). You'd be surprised how many people there *are* out there who are willing and happy to adopt these great "special needs" pets; you just have to reach those people and connect with them. Again, you need to sort of bill him as "extra special" -- maybe even get your local news-station or newspaper to do an "adopt a pet" segment on him (since, as you've noted, he is otherwise a great pet). Good luck to you and to Chezno! If you'd like a bit of extra help "networking" on Chezon's behalf, feel free to e-mail me directly.

Someone will come along and want to love him, ear or no ear. There are some people that don't care what a dog looks like (Look at all the "UGLY DOG" competitions there are out there these days - A LOT uglier dogs than one's with no ear!).

I can't blame poor Chezno for being afraid of the other dogs; You would be too if you got your ear ripped off by one!

Now, as for the Rot that did this (I read your other question...), you need to put her down before she attacks all of the other dogs at your rescue, or worse yet, you or another person. I know in your heart you want to "Save" her, but sometimes you have to do what's right in your mind (I think you already know the answer to your own question about putting her down).

Edit:
Wasn't it just under 2 hours ago that you were off to the emergency vet? How did he have his ear removed so quickly and have time for all 8 people that wanted him to see him and decide against him?

When did this *really* happen, if it happened at all...

Try advertising him in your local paper, or contact them and ask if they will do a sympathy piece on this dog that was highly desirable, but now that he is no longer as pretty no one wants him. You may get someone interested BECAUSE of his ear. I foster abused large breed dogs and you would be amazed at the amount of people who do love a scarred up dog because it adds to their personality and individual appearance. I had one brindle dane mix that had a huge scar down her side(due to an untreated infection) and her new owner loved the way it made her stripes stop, then start again an inch to the left.

My dog was attacked by 2 dogs(Australian Shepard). Her left ear was almost ripped off. Thank God I, with the help of neighbors was able to get the other dogs off of her.
For along time she had an intense fear of other dogs. 6 years later she gets along with other dogs as I have another dog now as well. She does become very aggressive if she sees another Australian Shepard.
Hopefully someone will look past the missing ear and adopt her. Good luck.

What you should do is tell people the truth. Once they find out what has happened.....they will want to care for the dog. But whatever you do, don't charge the adopters for the operation of removing his ear. You should place an add in the local newspaper and hang up posters about Chezno around town. If you have anymore questions please e-mail me.

See if you can not get the dog some on air time with like a local newcast.
Most times after seeing and hearing about how hard a dog has had it on the news they have more adopters than they have dogs for.
It works in our area. They have pets on the new every friday.

The people who desided they didn't want him weren't dog people and didn't desreve Chezy. He was too good for them to have

Maybe talk to a TV station tell them his story you'd be suprised at the response you'd get from pet lovers.

Also try to post an add at Petsmart on they're post board about him.

There is a special person out there to take care of him and give him the love he deserves

Well jsut find things that he really likes and find ways to cheer him up and maybe things that will put him to sleep. Second of all make sure he goes with a GOOD family not just any family that will adopt him...if he does get adopted

hope i helped!
hope he gets adopted!

I could care less what he looks like. I love all Labs and would adopt him myself if I could. Right now, I got too much on my 'plate' with a lab/pit mix and 2 cats.

Alex looks to love you - that's unquestionably a terrible mind's eye. Take care or in any different case he tries(!) to get you pregnant - lol 2 thumbs down? I could have stated that Alex is a german nazi which gets generally deleted every day interior minutes. /* he's deleted */
