My dog, Bowser Farnsworth III, will turn 6 next Sunday and I am at a loss at what to purchase him for his birthday. he inherited a large sum of money and I am his legal guardian. I am leaning towards a plasma big screen television, silk sheets for hsi waterbed, or a large order of Omaha steaks (his favorite). I need to decide son because he will return on Thursday from his vacation to Kenya.

It seems that there are more and more questions posted trying to find puppies. I am beinging to feel like a broken record by telling people to look at local shelters, akc (for breed specific rescues), puppyfind.com and puppyfinder.com. Is anyone else feeling this way too?

My best friend has MANY cats and wants a dog that acts sort of like one. She really would like a dog but is just branching out. Are there any dogs that act like cats? I've heard that sighthounds, basenjis and shiba inus are very catlike. anything else?

I have already asked this question but now I have found out that she is giving him to PetSmart on Saturday if he can't stay with one of my relatives. She can' keep him because she has three cats 2 of which are already hissing at him through the glass. I cannot keep him because I have a dog who has just been diagonosed with diabetes and we don't want to put anymore stress on him. so PLEASE hurry! here is the background info again.
My sister found a dog on her back porch. She took him to the vet to see if he has a chip and there wasn't one. There is a colar but no ID and it looks like he got out of where ever he was tide up at because there is a peice of yarn on his colar. He is a really cute Jack Russel mix. He is white with caramel spots. We have already thought of quite a few. Max, Maxwell, Jack, Zeus,Dipstick, Sprout, Spot, Peanut, and Charley. He is very curious and very sweet.
What should we name him?

A friend of mine gave me a male black puppy, with some white color around his face. His hair is growing fast and I can see it getting a bit curly but nice like a fairy. He's 2 months old now , and yet can't think of a name. Don't want a name of a person for him.
Any suggestion ?

The first 2 times I left him in his kennel was while I was grocery shopping (about an hour). The 3rd time I left him it was for a few hours. I put his kennel in the living room and turned the tv on for him. His kennel is only big enough for him to turn around in and lie down in. It's not too big. I was always told that dogs will not go to the bathroom in places where they have to lay down in. This is not the case with my puppy. He has pooped in his kennel and walked all around in it and laid down in it. What am I doing wrong?

I am training my own service dog and I have been through so much research I cant even say! I looked very hard for the "perfect" dog and I honestly thought this was it.
So me and my mother decided to bring him home for a "baby sitting" trail and see how he reacts. Well, the whole approach was a disaster. We did not introduce the dogs properly and he growled at first. *(Now he is nice to them, and plays with them. He will still growl if my male/neutered papilloin is on my bed with me.) He first met my dad, and this was a neg. experience. My dad was rude and scared Montee intentionally. That was only the begining. My dad scared him a few more times, and finnally stopped. When my dad thought Montee was "ok" he called him over. Of corse, motee was scared and Dad grabbed his collar to pull him over, and Montee reacted in a protest. (Barked and maybe fear bit, but he in no means lunged forward but back.)
Now Montee is afraid of my brother when he first walks into the house and other males.

Would a rabid dog snap off their leash? A few days ago i was walking to the library and a dog on a leash that was being walked by its owner moved towards and growled at me. After he passed me, I saw him trying to pull a flower but its owner pulled it away with its leash. Is this a rabid dog?

Oh kay...i am training my 8 month old chihuahua and right now i am working on calming him down. because when i first got him he learned to play rough and is very frisky. i cant even touch him without him running away from me. so im working on that right now and he is doing great so far. also i am working on his potty training which is also going pretty well minis the ocasional accident. And i still need to work on a lot more things. Like his tricks and good behavior but i like to start with the basics. like sit, stay, laydown, potty training, and calming him down. see im covering all those sections, but i was wondering if you know, how much longer do you think its going to take to cover everything he needs to know?

I have just adopted a year old beaglecross/hound from the blue cross. She is rather nervous, fairly obedient and house trained but she does need socialising and some more training espeacily recall this is proving quite difficult to do on my own as she seems to have been badly treated before and is not really interested in titbits or food. I would like to take her to classes but cannot find any in Exeter on the web. Can anyone help please.Karen D

We recently hired a girl to watch over our puppies while we are gone overseas. She informed me that she will leave the dogs shut up in their kennels for 10 hours at a time overnight. I have huge dogs: a mastiff, a boxer, and a rottweiler. Typically we let them roam the kitchen/ living room and they have a doggie door to the fenced yard. It's going to be too cold for them outside or in the garage. I don't have a problem with her kenneling them overnight, but is 10 hours too long? I've never taken my dogs to a kennel either, how long do they typically keep them in their kennels there? Am I over reacting?

He loves everyone and very submissive. I am not sure of the best way to correct him from his jumping since he is so low to the ground. He is 4 yrs. old and I was also wondering the best way to socialize him with cats.
