A dog does not have periods, they don't go though pain, the blood is a sign that they are in heat, (happens every 6 months) and if you don't want puppies you'll need to stick her in the house with a doggie diper on, or put her in a well fenced area.
The girl that said they DO go though periods is very wrong, a woman bleeds for the opposite reasons dogs do, the woman is releasing her vaginal wall a dog on the other hand bleeds for no reason other then to attrack a male dog... which doesn't seem to have the same affect on men... :)

it is called "in season" or in heat. not her period.
the only thing you can do is keep her away from other dogs, male especially, even females. i have a boston terrier who is coming into heat now.
she will be a little listless, won't eat as much, and will spot blood. be very patient with her! she can't help it. you can buy dog panties that have pad inserts to keep her from spotting all over the place, or buy baby diapers to put around her backwards (velcro side up). we use the diapers.
the first heat cycle will start at appx 6-10 monthes old and last for appx 3 weeks. 10 days in and 10 days out. the bleeding will be spotting for about a week, then heavier, and then spotting for about a week. the vaginal labia will swell during this time. eventually the swelling will go down. she may even begin marking her territory (peeing small amounts all over the yard to let other dogs know where she is).
occassionally, she will try to escape to breed.... please don't let this happen. and you may notice other male dogs hanging around too.
good luck and be patient with her

If your dog appears to be bleeding from her vaginal area, she is in heat and this will last about three weeks. If you have no desire to have puppies, do not let her go outside unattended as every male dog within a five mile radius will be in your yard. Have her checked out by our veterinarian. You may want to put a doggie diaper on her to minimize the mess. Good luck!

It's not called period - the dog is on heat.
The only way that you can help her is if you don't want her to get inseminated by another dog - so keep her in a safe environment where no dog can bother her

Her ladybits will swell noticably. She will lick herself a lot and may drip blood where she lies. She will take care of herself, she doesnt need your help. What did dogs do in the wild before they were domesticated. I'm sure nature knows best and we don't need to interfere. Best thing you can do is get the dog neutered. Save her all the distress.

dogs don't have 'periods' they come into season. I don't understand why you think you need to "help" her. What sort of 'help' do you think she needs during her season? It is perfectly natural and normal and she will not need any 'help'.
The symptoms are a swollen vulva and bleeding. You need to talk to your vet about when it is the right time to spay her.

She leave blood tracks and you should have her fix and protect her health. it's a sign she is in heat. You may get stray male dogs hanging around. What could be worst then having strays out side
