Most dog foods on the market have too many fillers and other useless stuff that doesn't provide anything to your dog. Dogs cannot digest grains, fruits or veggies. They get nothing from them, so why would you want to feed them something that has more grain than food. You want to avoid anything that ways beef or chicken meal as an ingredient.
The best thing to feed your dog is a raw prey diet. He will get everything he needs from this. Joints will give him the glucosamine to help prevent joint pain in an older dog. If you are concerned about too much fat, just remove the skin. Raw bone is actually good. It will give your dog calcium.

A good quality senior food that doesn't contain corn, wheat, soy, beet pulp, by products, chemical preservatives and dyes.
Stay away from such foods as Science Diet, IAMS/Eukanuba, Pedigree, Alpo, Purina Dog Chow.
Some good foods to consider are:
Wellness, Canidae, Innova, Solid Gold, Blue Buffalo, Percise, premium Edge

So change to fit the more sensitive dogs digestion, it will suit the other dog just as well. Dogs get fed only once a day so choose to let them enjoy it. There are lots of good name brands and some local brands. There is a sign in every Baskin- Robbins store... something like, not a quote There is nothing that can't be made cheaper to inferior standards, and those who buy by price alone are that products legitimate prey.

The senior version of James Wellbeloved or Pedigree dried mix is a good food for dogs. But I'd just see if there is a senior version of whatever food you already feed your dog so you're not subjecting him to a change in diet. Also, mind to give him regular cod liver oil capsules to keep those bones strong.

Rimadyl can have negative side effects. If your dog already has some kidney problems, it can aggravate that.
Get a good quality Senior food that uses human grade ingredients, and lists the source of meat (Lamb, chicken, etc) first. You want to avoid meat by-products. It should also list whole grains and avoid things like "animal fat". The type of fat should be identified by name. Canidae, Royal Canin, Natural Balance all make good senior foods.

You need to switch to a dog food for senior dogs. A dog is considered a senior after 7 years, 6 years for large breed. As a dog ages it become more critical that they have a balanced diet. Try Purina Dog Chow Senior Formula... I find that Purina offers many options for food for every need of a dog.

NOT SCIENCE DIET
NOT IAMS
both are crappy foods - the by-products are a cheap filler used by both foods - these are beaks feet feathers and are preserved with Ethoxyquin, a chemical pesticide linked to causing health problems - both are over priced for their quality and Science Diet PAYS for vets to promote it.... IAMS is linked to cruel animal tests.. BOTH ARE OVER PRICED JUNK!!!
ok if you want a good food it would help to know what country you live in.......
go to pet supply store and read the lables look for a SENIOR DIET...
perferably one with GLucosamine/Chondroitin added for joint health and Yucca too...
NONE of the foods in grocery or Wal Mart are any good...

Steves. Its all natural, not processed, not full of crap that dogs would NOT eat in the wild.
If you want him to live long and have LOW vet bills. That is the product my friend.
