We got a new 9 week old kitten saturday. My 3 year old dog is driving me crazy. She's very possessive of me barking even when i hug my husband. She isn't aggressive towards the kitten just crawls under the bed where kitten is and barks and whines. When i close the bed room door she whines and barks at door. Kitten doesn't seem threatened just doesn't come out from under bed when dog is around. Please, Please help me before i loose my mind.

I have a ten-month-old Newfoundland dog and a Great Pyrenees nearing five years in age. The younger dog can't leave our Pyr alone! I know she wants to play, but she'll bark in his face for what seems like hours, bite him (and us) everywhere, and sit on him until he makes a move. My first inclination was to leave it alone and let him handle it, but it's becoming an everyday habit. The Pyr and I aren't the only ones annoyed by it. He whines and whimpers, but he's almost always too lazy to do anything to stop her or at least try. I feel awful for him and I just wish that she would recognize that he's tired sometimes and stop instead of going on and on until we feed her dinner or something. She's also play biting still as well as barking, and it is hard for me to believe that she should still be carrying these behaviors on. The Pyr was such a low-maintenance puppy, and we expected similar from her. However, we're stuck now, and these things must stop sometime.

I have a Great Pyrenees nearing five years old, and he's had problems with food since he was a puppy. These problems were revolved around his "obsession" with food. Because of his size, he can eat nearly anything in no time at all, and he will do such things as jumping on our grill when we're cooking to steal food off of it. These behaviors are ones we have learned to deal with, but our town has had problems with dog aggression. We overlooked the development of food aggression with him as a puppy and never worked against it, and now he can't let anyone near his food. He growls and sometimes snaps at people who go near him when he is eating, and he refuses to eat anywhere where he is not alone at the fear of someone taking his food away. I am scared that this could lead to him doing something worse sometime. What can I do now to help him?

I think that a Cairn Terrier is perfect for my family, but life span is a consideration. Does anybody know how long they live?

How should I properly train my puppy on going out side especially in this cold weather?
I don't mind the paper training now but I don't want him getting used to that till spring...
Please help me and give me all the information that you have that worked for you, I've been doing tones of research but it's mainly about training in the spring and summer time.

Thank You
Mykel

Our border collie recently nipped at our 11 month old baby. The dog was sleeping and baby crept past. Next- on New Years Eve, the dog was freaked out by the fireworks and hid under the table. The baby crawled under, and our dog growled and bit our baby in the face! He was taken to the ER- no major damage luckily, just a tiny break in the skin. Believe me, the baby is #1 in our lives, I just feel partly responsible, as we are at fault for allowing the baby to be that close to our dog. Is training a possibility? Or is this just goodbye? I can not stand to see another incident like this, and I know dogs are unpredicatbale, I just can't help to feel sorry since I feel it was our responsibility as pet owners to keep them seperated. I'm worried our dog won't find a suitable home, and also worried about keeping him. I've always heard Border Collies are non agressive so I believe this to be fear-based. Would you get rid of him?

at what age should you start 7in1 and how often should you vaccinate? What if the dog only was vaccinated once at age 10 weeks, and not followed up? Do I start all over

Hey People! I am looking into getting a dog. I want a dog who will love me and that i can have alot of fun with. I dance on every other day. I usually dance from about 5 to 7. So i need a dog who is compattable with my brother and my dad and my mom. and my devil dog sam. She is a beagle. I really do not have much room in my room for a dog so it has to be a dog who does not bring crap in from outside and leaves it under my bed or a dog that gets into stuff alot! I need a dog who is athletic but will listen to my commands about 70% of the time.

CAN SOMEONE PLZ HELP ME!!!!!

Anyone have any experience introducing a new puppy into a home with an older dog that has been the only dog his entire life? I may or may not be attempting this, and was just curious how it went for anyone who may have done this. My dog is 12 years old, in good health, good energy, but very protective and not good with strangers, Aussie/Heeler Mix, about 55 to 60 lbs.

My Rott/Shepard mix is aggressive to strangers and men in ball caps. I have recieved a ticket for him and have to go to court. An officer had to mace him to get onto my porch and he backed off a little, but not much. They say I have to get him out of the "aggressive zone" or put him down. I don't want to put him down because he is just a BIG BABY. He just don't like strangers. Please help me he is a good dog but I don't know how to fix this problem. Thank you Teresa

Heres the scoop (backround history first) I have wanted a puppy dog ever since i was like 4 ! I love them all my family has one and I love to be with them. Recently my immidiate family(mom ,...ect) went to visit my cousins house for christmas holiday . we left a couple days ago.. I talk to my mother and she said that today they got a dog.

Of course its their dog. I guess im happy for them...... But they waited untill after we left to get the puppy! my mom said " well they didnt want to get the dog while you were there , so you wouldnt cry about leaving , and so you would be to attached , since they figured you wouldnt get one for chrsitmas "...."

At this point i felt pretty mad... i had all these thoughts , : " is it bad that i love dogs??" " So in order for me to not get attached are they not going to invite us over or hide him in a kennel so i dont become attached!?!?" Should i Be mad about this .. or did they plan this thinking it would do some "good" to us?Thanksall!

If so, then why do people say; "if you don't catch them in the act of doing something wrong, then you can't correct them later, the won't remember." How smart is that? And do you believe that? I truly believe that animals remember! I know when I take my dogs to the vet they get nervous, so they either remember the spay/neuter experience, shots or something traumatic for them. So who's to say that won't remember chewing, peeing, pooping, etc. when you go to reprimand them no matter if it's 15min, and hour or however much later????

I'm curious how many people have used the Dog Whisperers training techniques with successful results.

What other techniques have you used and how difficult or how long did it take to get results out of your dog (positive results)?

(Examples, PetSmart classes, local dog trainer from phone book, clicker training, etc.)

Basically I'd like to know what worked with YOUR dog(s).

My doggie is about 7 months old and he is very nice. The problem is sometimes he doesn't pay attention when I tell him a command but the second I put a cookie (buscuit) in my hand he instantly does the command. I would like to get him to stop needing the cookies all the time and to just listen to me. Ofcourse I will still give him treats. Also he doesn't always follow me but when my dad comes he follows him and sometimes it makes me sad because, I like to be with him. Help me please.
