I think one time an Akita scared the living sh*t out of my older sister. We didnt get along at the time so that was actually pretty funny. =)

A friend's aunt used to own one. Friendly, beautiful dog. However, I watched it go from a sweet "rub my belly" type of dog to a guardian (aggressive, maybe not guardian, I don't know what he would have been protecting) in a matter of seconds when the person reached up to pet it on the head. Not sure what the trigger was.
That individual dog? Maybe something the person petting it did? Or breed characteristic? I'm not sure as I am not familiar with this breed much, we don't see them around.

A friend of mine has an Akita. The dog's name is Kelly. I told my friend they should have changed Kelly's name to Houdini. No matter how many times they fix the fence in their back yard, Kelly manages to get over and/or under it. She is getting older now so going over the fence is harder for her but she can still dig holes under the fence and flatten herself out and slides right under it and gets out.
