Hard to read question...

The paws are tender b/c of a flea allergy??? FAD usually occurs near the base of the tail, along the spine and in more serious cases, the rest of the body.

Did she step in something that could have aggravated her paws? The soaking will help relieve some itching and pain. Although hard to accomplish, this is beneficial. Epsom salt is what you need to soak the paws in, not salt water. Try to soak them 5-15 minutes 1-3 times daily (the longer the better, the more frequently the better). You can place a baby's sock over her paws to try to help protect them and keep them clean while she goes outside.

Remember to not stop the pred - you must gradually decrease the dose. Pred can make her drink more and urinate more, in which case she may have an accident in the house (so don't get mad at her).

Good luck.

rather than salt-water, try strong black-tea:

put regular tea, in a bag, in the coffee-area of a coffee-maker, and run a cup of hot water thru the brewing cycle. USE 2 or 3 Bags - even 4 is not too much.

let it cool, to room temp; then use sterile cotton, either gauze or cotton-balls, to 'dab' all over the dog's pads, damp enuf to ooze in-between toes. let them dry WHILE THE DOG LIES DOWN - a tummy-rub would be good, now!
if U have to, just do one paw at a time; after it's dry, let the dog play a bit; then do the next paw. TREATS for co-operating during the process are a very good idea: small but hi-quality, so the dog can swallow them in one bite, and won't get 'full'.
NO boring milk-bones or kibble - use teeny but good, like baby carrots, in small pieces, bits of cheese, teeny bits of canned tuna or chicken-breast, and so on.

U need an Elizabethan Collar, too - the dog can't be allowed to KEEP LICKING. As long as the licking continues, the paws won't heal.

My dog did that all the time - our vet thought she could have been allergic to the stuff they use to grit the roads in winter and recommended that we bathe her paws after every walk and treat it with steroids.

She was also prone to over grooming - a nervous condition that she never really grew out of, we just had to bathe her and treat every bout with steroids.

To stop her licking her feet, we put old baby socks on her paws so's she couldn't get at them!

If you've got a Cocker Spaniel too, it could be the same thing - ask your vet about their thoughts next time you visit.

I had the same problem with a german shepherd and it cost me thousands to try sorting it. I don,t think salt water is the right thing to use as it can burn....try smearing natural youghurt on paws and between toes.If fleas are the problem then add cider vinegar to dogs wateras it discourages fleas to nest on pet.(start with drops in water building up to a teaspoon).

You're doing all the right things. It takes longer than just these few days you've done. Keep it up!

a long time. the salt will help healing and make the pads tougher.
