A family member has a rottweiler(not pure) and pit bull/rottweiler mixed. Nobody is allowed in the yard except those that live there. They eat the scraps off plates and cheap dog food. My problem is that the owners do not walk them. The fence is low, they show violent behavior towards each other, and they are not socialized. I have been feeding scraps to these dogs from visiting and they may wag their tails, but they growl lowly if I am close. I have a Cane Corso that obey verbal commands, but these dogs seem like a liability. I offered a different dog and talked about the potential danger to family, but no results. How would you handle it? I value people over dogs.

I am getting a Chi puppy and would like to give him the best diet possible. I have been searching the internet for the best diets. I know that commercial dog food is aweful and foods like chiken, carrots and pasta or oatmeal are best. But I also know that dogs need dry food for their teeth. So I am wondering if I could cook the food, blend it, and then roll it into little balls and dehydrate them or bake them? If this worked would it be a good diet for my chi puppy? I would start him on it slowly to switch from his current food. Any other suggestions?

My 6 month old Shih Tzu isn't eating very well since the day that I got him, his previous breeder didn't fed him very well, at first I used Natural Choice as recommended by Petco, soon after 2 days my dog didn't want to eat it at all, then I changed it to IAMs puppy as recommended by the vet, He was doing okay (still thin) until recently about 1 month and half ago, he started to rub his face on the carpet, bitting his paw, licking the hind of the legs, i did some research online and it says it is due to allergies? Should I stop feeding my dog Iams puppy and start to feed him food that does not contain soy, wheat or grain? I really have no idea I'm very new when it comes to dogs. Also, my dogs have red eye it comes and it goes, it shows when he is sleepy. Now, I'm feeding him rice and chicken boiled, because he isn't eating the dry dog food anymore, should I just continue feeding him what I cook or should i find a new brand food which is better for my dog? PLEASE HELP!!

I know its a silly question, but when you have a mix dog, in which one parent had ears that are down and one had ears that are up, at what age will you know weather the pup's ears will be up or down? Also, in a mix dog in which both of the parents had upright ears, how long does it take the pup's ears to stand?

My dog gets mats because I don't have a lot of time to brush him. He has a bunch of fur, pictures at : http://www.dogster.com/pet_page.php?i=438869&j=t. Would it be ok if I shave him and leave him sweater-less?

I have a 7th month old american bulldog. these dogs have a natural and instinctive motive to guard and protect. it you do not know the breed well do look them up. My question is at what age will he physically protect. his parents were good natural protectors and he displays a tact for a watchful eye and barks and growls at things out of the ordinary especially in the yard.

My dog (Rottweiler) was recently sick with an intestinal parasite (she's fine now). Needless to say, she went to the bathroom (diarrhea) and vomited numerous times all over my apartment. Even though I cleaned it up as it happened, I think the smell has somehow embedded itself into the carpet.

No matter what I do, I cannot get the smell out of certain rooms. I've tried using bleach, incense, vacumming, baby powder, opening up all the windows, air fresheners, fans, etc.

Nothing works. No matter what I do, I cannot get the smell out and it's really starting to get to me. I might be able to get the smell out for an hour or two at best, but it always comes back.

At first, I thought my dog was the source of the smell, so I have been giving her a bath everyday, so that rules that source out.

What can I do to get rid of the smell? Do I really have to get my carpets cleaned or is there a cheaper way?

Thanks!

Over the holidays, my collie (age 10-12 possibly) began having some problems breathing. She is still eating great, as active as a senior dog with arthritis can be and is still going to the bathroom fine. I took her to the vets where they ran several blood tests and took x-rays of her lungs and heart. Her liver and kidneys are working well and her heartbeat was steady and strong, but the x-rays showed some fluid in her lungs and a slightly rounded (enlarged) heart. They gave her Lasix to reduce the fluid retention and sent the x-rays to Ohio State veterinary hospital. The Lasix is working, but after not taking it for a few days has labored breathing again. While I am still waiting on the results, I was wondering besides heart disease, could anything else cause this? Also, she is now on an all natural, corn and wheat free diet as well as eating plain, unsweetened yogurt with flax seed oil and a good probiotic but is their anything else I could give her to help make her stronger.

I am currently visiting my family out of state and my male german shepherd is also here, he is now 7 months old. my brothers girlfriends family has a female german shepherd (not sure age) anyways, i am going to start work, well helping someone out temporarily while im here for the next month. my mom had just asked me about breeding my dog with my brothers girlfriends, and i immediatly said no. i DO NOT want to breed my dog at the moment. Myself and my fiance have discussed it, and we will do it later on when we have a female and when our male is getting old we would breed to have a puppy by him. before that i DO NOT want to breed my german shepherd. and i definently am not going to breed and they just sell the puppies to make money. ONE thing i worry about, is while im at work, they breed the dogs behind my back, if something like this were to happen what actions can i take? i do NOT trust my mother and she doesnt respect me or what i have to say as u can see in my other questions.
