It depends on their personalities and tempers. There is no way to tell until you try it.

my 15 year old cat gets along wiht my shepherd and my retreiver if the puppy isnt bigger then the cat already you shouldnt have a problem but if the cat had a bad experiance with a dog you may want to introduce them slowly so the cat can get used to the dog i wouldnt let the cat hurt the puppy but let it swat at it if and only if the puppy does something to hurt the cat that way the puppy will learn what not to do and work with them both so the cat dont think you are replacing it but merely bringing in another freind

My older cats do not enjoy the dogs we adopted 6 months ago. They tolerate the dogs, but do not enjoy the chasing and my male cat has put the dogs in their place a few times. He doesn't run from the dogs. My female cat runs like the wind when the dogs come inside and hides under the bed. She's simply not interested in the dogs (though she did take over one of their beds).
That being said, a kitten happened upon our home about 2 weeks ago - he's about 7mos old and he LOVES the dogs and they love him too. In fact as I'm typing this, my westie/jrt mix and the kitten are wrestling in the hallway and I had to correct the dog for being a bit too rough. The kitten however, once the dog was called away, tried to grab my dog's hindquarters as she was coming to my side to obey her command.
I think a younger cat would be much more accepting of a puppy.
If you do bring the dog into your home, be sure the cat's nails are trimmed WAY back so it cannot do serious damage to your playful pup!

its not unusual for cats and dogs to get along. of course in the beginnin ur cat will feel protective of another pet in the house and it may become territorial. its a good idea to introduce the puppy and cat slowly. kinda keep the puppy in the laundry and wen ur playin wit the puppy, bring it over to the cat and see how it reacts, every day increase the amount of time the cat n the puppy r around each other. they should be fine.

Hello, this is my first time,so please bear with me. My fiance and I have just had two 12 week old kittens and an 10 week old golden retriever puppy.and I must say they get along brilliantly, they play together, sleep together,I think there confused though, cats think there a dog,and dog thinks hes a cat, really funny to watch them.I think if there young enough it doesnt matter, also I think its important not to show favouritism.hope this helps, thank you. bye.
