Dogs - January 2007

As stated he is two months old, but through struggle (mainly caused by me from inexperince) I have found that he refuses to be lead by a leash. I've carried him around since before his eyes were even open, and now that I no longer wish to carry him around as often, I'm finding that the only response I get from trying to lead him on a leash is yelping to alarming pitches, coughing, even almost choking himself. I need advice on how to gain a packleader position with him to assist with training. How can I do so, step-by-step?

i have a dalmation....he goes everywhere my mom and dad go. i go to pet him and he growls.....i just love hom soooo much and he just ignores me...i change his water, take him for a walk, give him a bath, buy him medicines and watever he needs.......basically nothing is done by my parents but he never seems to realize my value..................how do i get him to love me..he has already bitten me 3 times coz i wanted to pet him!!!!................serious answers plz

Everytime I take her outside to my backyard and get her to pee, she'd just mess around and play with the plants and rocks in my backyard. She'd occasionally sniff around and stop playing which makes me think that she's going to pee, but then she gets back to playing and messing around. I only got her to pee once before. She's 2-3 months old. HOW TO POTTY TRAIN HER? I want to get her not to pee in the house and the only place to pee is on GRASS

A dog that can smile.
We had one that did. At first I thought it was showing me its teeth in a bad way, but hubby said, she's just smiling at you. Its kinda funny how they do that.

I saw a blog that pointed out that in Denver a 54 year old man was mauled, an 82 year old lady was killed in her front hard, and a 5 year old child was killed all by pit bulls. Then at the end of this blog it said (The reputation of pit bulls being dangerous is so unfair). Hello! The proof is in the pudding!!!

Yeah I had to move my cat litter box only 3 weeks after I got my new Shih Tzu b/c where I had it the dog would run in it and steal some poop and take it to her dish and start eatting it! And now if I forget to close the baby gate, I bought so my cat can take a crap in peace with out the dog waiting for her to finish so the dog eat it, then the dog still continues to take big chunks and "chow down"!

what does one need th do to start training my puppy for being a guard dog that is the reason that i got him for for protection of my family he is 2mths old ROTT/SHEPARD MIX but he is a wimp there is a little dog around that attacks and he wimpers and shakes shoul i do something or let nature take it course help me please becouse i dont want my dog to grow up a wussy vet said he will be over 100 pds and very very strong????

I am sorry I ask so much but I really want the best for me puppy. I have been getting mixed answers about Hill's Science Diet. People complain about the by products. Eukanuba has had its goods and bads. Eagle pack is the only company that has not got a bad review ! It is pricey..anyone used it before ? Advance is supposed to be good too. I really want a super premium brand

I am still new at this and I am willing to spend the amount to maintain a healthly pup so I need to know in your opinion..

I am having my female dog spayed on Monday. I am concerned she will be in a lot of pain after the op because my last dog was.
When my last dog was spayed she was very sleepy for the first few hours after we bought her home. Then she woke up an staggered out into the garden to relieve herself. After that she was in obvious pain for the rest of the night. She was whistling and panting all night long.
I really do not want this dog to suffer in the same way.
I know she is an animal and they deal with pain differently but I hate to see any animal suffering.
Does any one know of any ways I can minimise her discomfort.
Also stupidly forgot to ask how much it is going to cost me it was 12 years ago when I had Cleo done and it was £100 - any ideas.
She is a big dog 40kg
She is 1 year old.

my long haired pomerainium crossed is around 10 kilos and we have problems with fleas over the summer. we get him clipped twice over the hot season, and buy expensive flea treatments but is causing a financial strain. Is there something I could further do to prevent fleas?

The glass is cracked and no pieces are missing, but the keyboard is completely apart. There were about 30 little keys less than 1/4" round each, and 5 big ones. All the metal in the background is missing.
