I have a 7th month old american bulldog. these dogs have a natural and instinctive motive to guard and protect. it you do not know the breed well do look them up. My question is at what age will he physically protect. his parents were good natural protectors and he displays a tact for a watchful eye and barks and growls at things out of the ordinary especially in the yard.

Cooee Matt! Listen mate - you want to start training your dog almost immediately. The breed doesn't have to have an "age" to start protecting (either physically or verbally), it's in their genes! You're the boss and you need to be able to tell that dewg wot you want from him at the earliest age possible. Makes a great dog; a great protector; people friendly (unless YOU say otherwise); and dog friendly! Bad owners make bad dogs - which is why they are banned in a lot of states in Australia. Best of luck - they're a great dog!

He will probably be VERY protective when he reaches maturity which is about 1-2 years.

18 months brings a number of changes for male dogs.

Are you waiting for his natural instincts, or do you plan to actively TRAIN your dog? You do NOT want to wait until he's aggressive to start training.
