2 cycles per year on average.

Having her spayed before her first heat will greatly reduce her chances of cancer and will provide other health benefits which are diminished with each cycle.

Most dogs regardless of breed go in heat twice a year (every 6 months) although some dogs go in heat every 3-4 months. There is no set time of year since cycling is dependent on the individual dog.

The average age that most dogs go in heat for the first time is 6 months, however this can be as early as 5 months or as late as 18 months (Giant breeds tend to have first heat later while toy breed tend to start earlier).

It is recommended to get your female spayed before she has her first heat. By doing so you practicaly eliminate mammary cancer and you will eliminate reproductive cancers and a very serious often fatal uterine infection, pyometria.
